Absolute piece of cake.  Phone/keys in the bin.  Chick has a belt buckle on her coat that gets wanded for 5 seconds.  No problem whatsoever.

Look. I'd love lines to get in the door. That means we're good and people are actually coming.

Agreed ... one small beef ...

Security is inside the first set of doors, then you walk through the second set of doors and about 50 to 75 feet to have your ticket scanned.

A few games this year it was either really cold or raining/snowing while standing outside waiting to go through security.

They should move security further in, past the second set of doors, right before you get your ticket scanned so the line to go through security is mostly inside the building.

Adding security theater to the Bradley Center was a stupid decision that wastes everyone's time and reduces the value of the event.

The end.

Yup.

I sit in the sweater section and was at the game.  I asked other "sweater vest" around me about the app, none had any idea what I was talking about.  I got four to download it no problem, two others I had to walk through this new fanged thing called an "app store."

And, I kid you not about this ... one "sweater vest" (early 70s grad) with an iPhone 4 that did not know the app store existed, complained about MU's poor marketing about the app said "he should have gotten a letter about it."

I looked at him dumbfounded and did not know where to begin.  Then the national anthem started and we moved on.

Exactly.  MU tried to hand out some sheets explaining what to do to download the app (I always just walk right by whatever they're trying to hand out, and I don't think I'm alone in that) and threw some stuff up on the video board that stopped showing up 20 minutes before tip.

So thinking logically, those who got there early would be the most likely to know about it, download it, and use it.  See: the student section.  Not many people are filling up the stands 45 minutes before the game thinking, "Hey, I need to get there early because the video board might have some information on what I should do during the intro video!"  I highly doubt there were a bunch of "sweater vests" who were standing around talking amongst each other, "Did you see about this lights app they're trying?  That sounds so stupid.  No way I would ever do that!  Kids these days..."

Perhaps.  But I never remember being stuck outside for more than a few seconds with the exception of yesterday when it might have been 2-3 minutes roughly 20 minutes prior to tip.

Happy it went well and imagine it will continue to grow now that people have seen it, hopefully inspiring those who didn't know about it to participate next time.

Some of the older "sweater vests" like my parents don't carry a cell phone.  They leave it in the car.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

I don't know why you would highly doubt that. Every time the student section or Marquette tries anything new the sweater vests on here say exactly that!

Sadly, "sweater vests" and "Asians" are the two remaining groups who continue to be subjected to crude jokes and scornful ridicule. If my life depended on blindly choosing a lower level seat number 3 hr before a Tues Eve game vs NoNameState and praying that seat would be occupied by game time, I'd pick the SV area over the StudentSection. Economics notwithstanding, give the SVs some credit for faithfully supporting MU for decades. Also, if that really was an "F U Nova" chant coming from the students, that's about as crude and unoriginal as it gets. Now, get the F off my goddamn lawn!!

Didn't Sloane describe her boyfriend Ferris (as Abe Froman, sausage king) as wearing a "white tee shirt, SWEATER VEST....devastatingly handsome!"???
Zenyatta has a lot....a lot... of ground to make up. She gets there from here she'd be a super horse......what's this.....Zenyatta hooked to the grandstand side....Zenyatta flying on the outside....this....is...un-belieeeeeevable!...looked impossible at the top of the stretch...

do you think some(or many in this intro situation) underestimated and/or didn't realize what effect the app would

have on the game day experience?  i mean, when they saw what was happening, i would think many were like,

wow, that's really cool and wish they were prepared.  so next time, you'll see more, then more then....sometimes

these things take a little bit to catch on.

1. I apologize if the use of the term sweater vest is offensive to you. I mean it with no disrespect
2. I'm not sure where I made a crude joke or scornful ridicule. I said I roll my eyes when sweater vests complain about the students. Nothing crude nor scornful
3. You are very mistaken if you think sweater vests and asians are the only two groups subjected to jokes and ridicule
4. I would pick the student section every time if my life depended on it. You always now those first 10 rows will show up. Its very hit or miss everywhere else, especially the student section.
5. I do give them credit for showing up. I wish more would do more than show up. I also wish the students would show up in more numbers.
6. The F U Nova chants were unclassy. Not a fan. Not only that, but NOVA went on a huge run afterwards
7. I'll now get off your lawn

It seems like almost all here seem to support the cool ideas for the student section (the big sign, the light app - which everyone here who commented said they were downloading).  Something like a 45% full student section with 50% of that 45% full section not even participating in an "I believe that we will win" chant for a 14-17 team that we ripped off of Utah State, whose student section actually shows up and participates in it pretty impressively?  Meh, I can see why some people aren't all that excited about the idea.

No offense taken. I'm not a sweater-vest (yet). I just have had the pleasure of sitting next to good-natured old timer MU alums many times. I am a loud, obnoxious fan, and I am the first to stand up and start waving my arms up to get people up out of their seats. I'm in my early 40s now, and as a full-time caregiver to both my parents, I can't get to more than 2 games a year.

Between 1996 and 2011, I attended almost every home game. On many occasions, the older alums thought I was an older student, lol, bc of how emotionally invested I get in games. Only one time did I ever think of invoking the dreaded, "Shut up and stand up, Sweater Vest!" line. MU was in the throes of a late rally against a BigEast stalwart, and I stood up and cheered loudly. The stodgiest old geezer (yes, Chick, that term fits sometimes) yells at me "Hey, sit the hell down." I went full-on Trump on him, incredulous that he's calling me out for  supporting my school. I was embarrassed at my own actions, however wrong the guy was, and always try to respect my elders. We made peace, and the guy told me how he had been at every MU home game since McGuire. Since that episode, I've sat near some extremely loyal MU "vests." There's a codger or two in every crowd, and I just don't think all of us at MuScoop, myself included, should paint with a broad brush. Wasn't singling you out TAMU, I find your posts well reasoned and passionate. I just included the "lawn" line because I had an "I'm becoming my parents" epiphany, and was being self-deprecating.

Other than that one chant, I thought our students were great. Even when Nova went on a couple big runs, a big deficit didn't curb the students' enthusiastic cheering. They were very loud when we were on D, much of the game. They've been solid on all our weekend home games. Hope they can show up on the weeknights next year. Even without HE, we can be special, and the students should be there in force.

I tried to download the app, but the app store said it was not compatible with my LG G4, which I find very very odd.  However, since I was not going to the game and figured it was probably a strobe like feature....I did not pursue it.  Would have been awesome to have been at the game with that going on.  Looked really cool.

Seeing it with a video actually does it some justice.  Not shabby!

It'll catch on.  More folks will become familiar.  And I'm assuming they'll be able to easily program next year's introduction into our existing app.  Maybe use it again tomorrow?

If you look carefully, most of the gaps in the upper deck appear to be due to empty seats.  I can see plenty of light-colored clothing (i.e., gold sweater vests) in the gaps in the lower bowl.

Heretofore, let's refer to them as Long-time Game-Buff Ticketholders.
