It was pretty damn cool. Predictably, all the lights were coming from the upper deck and ends, virtually none in the middles.
The student section was easily the brightest.

This is why I roll my eyes whenever I hear complaints about the student section

I'm going to go ahead and guess that the students got an email about the app and that not a lot of the "sweater vests" had any idea there was an app they were supposed to download.

They didn't have it on the scoreboard or make an announcement? If so, that's a marketing fail

It was on the scoreboard about every 60 seconds prior to the game and they handed out fliers to every fan entering the building explaining how to download the app. It wasn't a marketing fail. Anyone who didn't download the app did so by choice or was simply completely oblivious to the world around them.

EDIT: Honestly, everyone around me was either participating in the Marquette Lights or commenting on how cool it looked. Really worked well. Kudos to the Athletic Department. Hope they continue to build on it and use it in the future.

It was on the Jumbotron. And I am pretty sure all of the season ticket holders got an email .
Have some patience, FFS.

Excellent. My faith in MU marketing has been restored and my eye rolls shall continue!

GGGG

To be fair, it times time to download apps on a flip phone.

Well with the new security at the BC if you showed up to the gates any less than a half hour before tip you probably were getting to your seats just as the National Anthem was being played, at which point the Jumbotron had the MU choir on it and after they stopped handing out whatever they handed out. So students probably got a handout and saw it since they got there 2 hours ahead of time and saw the Jumbotron plenty while many people who had assigned seating may have just walked in too late to know it was happening.

If I hadn't been on Scoop I would've had no idea it was happening until the intros started and I left my house in Tosa at 12:15, parked, and went straight to wait in line for 20-30 minutes to get into the BC.

Or they had the phone backwards and were looking into the strobe effect.   ;)

Wasn't at the game ..

Wait .. so is that a semi-accurate representation of how many folks were using the app?

That's like 2%.

To be fair,  you should have anticipated that.  You knew it was going to be the biggest crowd of the year. And if you didn't know about the new security measures because this is the first game you have been to this year,  shame on you.

Wouldn't it be, if have been to games with the scanners and didn't give yourself enough time, shame on you?

I did give myself enough time. Was there for the National Anthem, intros, and entire game. I'm saying unless you got in line 45+ minutes before tip, got an email, or check Scoop regularly you probably didn't have any clue that there was an app you were supposed to download. It would then make sense that the students would have the highest percentage of people who downloaded the app, since they probably fit 2 of those 3 things. Of the rest of the building I'd guess under 50% of the people at the game fit any of those things.

You know what also makes sense? A large population of sweater vests saw the messages and decided not to download the app. I'm sure both our things are true. As chick said, all season ticket holders got e-mails, so over half the crowd at least got an email.

Adding security theater to the Bradley Center was a stupid decision that wastes everyone's time and reduces the value of the event.

The end.

The security was rough the first few games, but it's pretty easy now. Have your phone and keys out, walk through, done. If you have a large belt buckle or steel toed shoes, anticipate the 10 seconds of wanding and let them know why you beeped.

It's really not a big deal and has minimal impact on the event.

Absolute piece of cake.  Phone/keys in the bin.  Chick has a belt buckle on her coat that gets wanded for 5 seconds.  No problem whatsoever.

Look. I'd love lines to get in the door. That means we're good and people are actually coming.

I sit in the sweater section and was at the game.  I asked other "sweater vest" around me about the app, none had any idea what I was talking about.  I got four to download it no problem, two others I had to walk through this new fanged thing called an "app store."

And, I kid you not about this ... one "sweater vest" (early 70s grad) with an iPhone 4 that did not know the app store existed, complained about MU's poor marketing about the app said "he should have gotten a letter about it."

I looked at him dumbfounded and did not know where to begin.  Then the national anthem started and we moved on.
