You still haven't brought yourself to watch the videos, have you.   For you to say ALL he did was spot up shoot, is a disservice to the man.  I'm sorry you are stuck with this one.

Novak did develop in college to be a solid rebounder, etc.  however, those skills weren't what got him this long of a career in the nba.

100% agree, but that's not what we were talking about.  PRN has such a dildo up his rumpus about a certain coach, that when that player says how much he improved and was forced to become a complete player, which Novak ultimately did in college, he just digs his heels in more.

Novak was only a spot up shooter are his words.   That's true his freshman year, and mostly in the NBA because he is a specialist.  It is not what Novak was his entire career at MU where he worked his arse of to be a post up, mid range player in addition to his 3 point elegance.

ChicosBailBonds

Novak's freshman year, 18% of his attempts were from 2 point land.

Over his next three years, that number moved to 30%.  Of course, still very high for 3 point shots, and why wouldn't it be as adept as he was at the three, but he had to evolve and get better at doing just 3 point shooting.  His 3 point shots also came in wider varieties toward the end of his career.  They weren't just spot up 3's anymore....

somehow i remember being frustrated as hell when crean didn't design more plays to free up stevo, especially when the team struggled.  being 10 years removed(wow, where did time go?) i can't cite specifics, but just saying.  i know he has good stats and all, but he could have been utilized even more.  he was a pretty good all-around player-more so than some are giving him credit for-funny how he's being "type-cast"  NOW he is the designated sniper-nothing wrong with that, just as some are the designated defenders, etc...

Was asked by buddy yesterday who last MU guy to play for Bucks was. Only 3 I could remember were Tony Smith for a cup of coffee at the end of his career, Lloyd Walton for about 5 years in the late 70s and George Thompson for a year at the end of his career. Missing anybody?

Typically dishonest use of statistics on your part. As a freshman, Steve was an off the bench, 15 minute a game player on a team with D Wade, Robert Jackson, etc. We had other guys to slash, post up, etc.. His ONLY job on that team was to shoot 3s, and 82% of his attempts were from beyond the arc.

But his % of 3pt shots didn't drop to 71.3% (still a staggering percentage for a 6'10" - or any - guy) "over his next three years" (as you put it). They dropped immediately to that number when he became a starter as a sophomore (starters may have a specialty, but they're asked to do at least a little more than one job). And his % of 3 pt shots as a senior was exactly the same (71.3%) as it was as a sophomore. From the first game he started at MU to his last game there he was literally the EXACT SAME type of player offensively. All of the "post up moves" and "mid range game" that YOU saw him add to his repertoire were in your "I love TC" imagination. What a surprise!!!

Speaking of which, MU has not had a walk-off (or close to it) HOME victory since this shot, IIRC.  Carlino had a game winner but with 12 clicks last year vs. Creighton...and Junior had the game tier versus UCONN in the wrong way game.   We are due!

i was at both games when we beat notre dame at the buzzer-my ears are still ringing.  novak's shot and doc rivers 1/2 court/45 foot bank shot against notre in the old arena(US cellular) in jan. 1981.  doc's shot was back when it was a REAL rivalry.  i mean there was some real hate on ND back then.  at least as much as the relationship with bucky today.  not taking anything away from stevo's winner-fantastic!

That clip I posted when Novak hit the shot, the crowd is bananas loud.  Usually TV doesn't do it justice, but that clip does a good job.  Wish I was at that game in person, but enjoyed it from home for sure.

Having a dildo up my "rumpus" would be much less uncomfortable than having Tom Cream as.the head coach of the Warriors.

Thanks Sultan. Figured it'd be easier to just ask on here than do the research.

Rivers' shot remains my single favorite in-person Marquette memory, rocket.

Great interview

Thanks for sharing....that band member knows it is going in about 10 feet from the basket....always fun to watch.

Like his comments about Wojo (yes, I realize that he has to say the right things, but I do believe Doc believes what he is saying).

Herman Cain

I appreciate excellence no matter what package it comes in. Novak is simply one of the finest long range shooters ever. The fact that he is a Marquette guy makes it even sweeter. I think it will be awesome if he ends up signing with the Bucks.

Maybe in his off time he can come over to the Al and work with our team to help develop their shooting form.

Also in the "almost, but not quite a walk-off" category over the past few years is Whittington missing the third FT attempt.
