Are they the best front line duo since Jim Chones, Maurice Lucas & Larry McNeill? (Of course the 3 never played together but as duos they did)

Hmm...tough to discount how good McIlvaine and Key were during their four years together.

How quickly we forget about Otule and Gardner.

Oh why oh why didn't happen!  If only there were no freshmen teams then and no ABA.

They didn't play together nearly as much as this duo does now. They also never really dominated while playing together like many of us hoped they would.

"Ivory Towers" is awesome.  We gotta make that stick.
Have some patience, FFS.

Mac and Key...

...couldn't begin to carry any of Chones, Luke, or McNeills' jockstraps. Those guys were the very best in the nation.

I felt going into the season that Luke would be the most improved guy due to Henry and he is playing at a high level. Would love to an agent for those two guys for the next 15 years.

This team can end being quite good if the big guys stay healthy. Hard to guard two gifted big men at the same time.

That...and the fact that both Henry and Luke are better than either Gardner or (especially, and I liked him) OTule.  Gardner was probably the most gifted low post scorer, but that's about it.

Not so hot in year one.  Mostly Key and Curry, then.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

After all the effort it took me to get there, you just had to make me remember again.  Geez!

IDK Chick, that "ivory towers" was used quite a bit about uw-madison's Hughes twins-as a term of derision.

Most MU fans are too young to remember the Hughes twins.
Have some patience, FFS.

I would say Bo Ellis and Jerome Whitehead where quite a frontcourt duo....I am old enough to remember Hughes twins.

Maybe Purdue's, wouldn't trade for Maryland's. Those are the only candidates if you ask me.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

I was having this conversation the other day. I said we have a top 5 front court and in no order I named us, Purdue, Gonzaga, Maryland, but couldn't think of a 5th...maybe Kansas? Of course all the Michigan State slapys I work with claimed I was nuts and then started drooling over Costelo

I can't actually think of a distinct fifth either.

Rod Grosse and Joe Nethen were the original Ivory Towers.
