Monmouth is a popular buy game.  This year, however, they are 3 and 1 with wins over ND and UCLA.

Are they the real deal this year or lucky so far?

keefe

The coach thanks the Monmouth AD for giving him the time to build his program. evidently his early year records were not stellar. Interesting perspective.

They are not the real deal.

UCLA sucks right now just as they did most of last year.  Shut down Bryce Alford and you win.  They may get it together, but right now they are not a good basketball team.

And yet they'll still somehow make the Tourney

I respect their wins, but the fact that their fanbase keeps using #mubb on twitter is annoying and confusing the living sh!t out of me... Knock it off damn monmouth people.

Maybe.  They've missed it two of the last 6 seasons, and four times in the last 13 seasons (69% of the time they made it in those 13 years).

Anyone who beats the Domers is the real deal in my book...at least for a day.

The Equalizer

But are they a typical MAAC team?

This summer I was in Long Branch, New Jersey and everything is MU this and MU that.  Even very similar typography, may even be a trademark infringement there somewhere.  Until recently they were Monmouth College.  Not to be a snob, but there are even some rubes in New Jersey.

In my book anyone who beats ND is the real deal, whatever they call themselves.

They're rubes because the typography of their car sticker is similar to Marquette?

Now they are giving Dayton all they want.

Anybody see the ESPN highlight of this game?  It was all about the Monmouth bench and their crazy choreographed celebrations. Pretty funny.

The Beat USC today (Southern Cal, Not South Carolina).  Ok, they suck but it's another power conference won for them.

They definitely don't suck. Solid team. But you asked if they were the real deal. They have a 0% chance for an at large bid....so I wouldn't consider them the real deal.

Interestingly enough, they already played USC earlier this year and lost by 11. Won the rematch today.

I bet if they win out and then lose in the conf tourney championship, they'd be on the bubble.

So more like a 0.5% chance.

Yes, they are the real deal. More to come with a 5' 6" guard.

Ummm, yeah.

BTW, where are all the GTown sweatervests?  How come there's no energy in the Verizon Center? Students suck these days.  I wonder who's announcing their transfer out after the game?  Blah, blah, blah.

I believe G-Town is on a quarter system and they are on break (finished last week).

Monmouth has beaten UCLA, Notre Dame and USC.  They are leading big against G-Town late the second half (up 14 with 10 to play).

Does any other school have more "marquee name" wins than Monmouth?
