Nope. I believe Belmont Abbey is in one of the Carolinas.

Belmont Abbey is somewhere between NYC and Florida. pete Vescey got an offer to attend yankees spring training and stopped off at Belmont Abbey to visit some buddies who Al had recruited from Archbishop Molloy. But they sold his spikes and glove for beer money so Pete spent the rest of the year hanging out with Al and his team.

Plenty of graduates from the Yale School of Drama waiting tables. That doesn't mean that the school isn't one of the best at what it teaches.

I've had season tickets to The Yale Rep theater for a large number of years and have been surprised by their graduate list.

MaymonsPops

Any guesses for the opening line Friday? Marquette -6 feels right to me. Mr. Pomeroy makes it Marquette -8, for whatever that may mean to you.

And you have made my point. A lot of famous actors have graduated from there, but they didn't all become famous actors.
Have some patience, FFS.

All about Belmont's 3FG% on Friday.

If you ever see Paul Giamatti in a play he's fantastic, but just don't sit in the first three rows because his acting technique let's a steady stream of spit fly.

I believe the correct response to this is "there was no marking on the text message to indicate she was married to me at the time I received that information about the alleged absence of mushrooms."

When I was growing up in Nashville, Belmont was tiny - I mean Cardinal Stritch tiny. The entire campus was basically a square city block,.  I drove through campus a couple of years ago and was floored.

Ditto.

A frickin Bible College.

We don't lose to Bible Colleges.

Period. End of story.

There are plenty of folks who might view Marquette as a Bible College, and the Big East as a Bible Conference.

Then you might want to prepare to be shocked.  10 years ago a talented but young MU team lost to Winthrop in the second home game of the season.  Winthrop was coming off an NCAA appearance and returned everyone from that team.  Just like Belmont.  Returning everyone is a HUGE advantage at this time of the year and those guys did win 20+ games last year.  I actually wouldn't be "shocked" if MU trailed most of the game.

So better be prepared.  By the way the team that lost to Winthrop, a few weeks later beat #2 UCONN and went on to go the NCAA tournament.  So if we lose, as I fear we will, don't go crazy.  Young teams take time.

I have just read 3 pages in this thread and this comment best reflects my feelings.

Of course an inexperienced team like ours could lose to a good, experienced team like Belmont, especially if Belmont is making shots from all over the floor.

And of course folks here (and elsewhere) will go into Panic Mode even though, logically, they shouldn't. Since when is fandom logical?

I did not watch one minute of any Italy games or of the exhibition game the other night, partly because I was busy but partly because I was "saving myself" for actual games that matter.

So I am psyched to watch this game, to see HE in a Marquette uniform in a game that counts, to see Cheatham and the much-discussed improvement of Cohen, among other things. I am having a few fellow Marquettians over to the house to watch.

Regardless of what happens, I won't get too high or too low. I very much remember the losses to Winthrop and Green Bay, remember the ridiculous amount of angst, and remember that both MU teams went on to have fun, successful seasons.

And regardless of what happens, I will still very much be looking forward to my trip to Brooklyn with Mrs. MU82.

Not sure what to think of this, but went on stubhub and there are not many tickets available for the game. I was expecting something in the 400's for $10 or so... Nothing. A good sign perhaps!?

Or a sign that people who would ordinarily put their tix on stubhub don't feel they'd sell for Friday's game.  I have some 400s for $7.50 over on our trading post...but with stubhub fees, I'd probably give them away before selling for even less.

So, when we play a good team like Villanova or UW, will there be a thread proclaimin' the game to be a "nuclear holocaust," hey?

First game of the season on a Friday night with it being most people's first opportunity to see Henry, I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt to our fans on this one. Expecting a good crowd.

You don't to war with Belmont.  I think we blow their doors off.  We have multiple NBA players including a sure lottery pick. Too much size. Too much talent.

They were supposed to give Becky trouble in the dance a few years ago but got blasted.

And in the last 3 years they lost in close games to Butler and Virginia, and beat North Carolina and Stanford. I'd be shocked if we blew their doors off.

Not that it really matters, but I saw they opened at -5 and it has since dropped down to -3.5
