Bacteria becoming completely resistant to treatment - also known as the antibiotic apocalypse - could plunge medicine back into the dark ages.

Whew!  Won't have to worry about ISIS in about 5 years.

Sundays at 9:30p (8:30p Central) on FOX.
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

These warnings have been around for about 10 years and are actually very serious.

If there is one issue where gov't funding is needed - even necessary - it is this. But we know that won't happen.

Antibiotics are not a money maker. And, to be fair, they are becoming increasingly harder to research.

That being said, some providers hand them out like candy when they aren't necessary. Further, patients (especially parents) will demand them, not understanding the medicine. Of course, those same patients fill out surveys that determine pay to providers/hospitals, so...

Hey, I don't peddle unpleasantness.  It's doom.   Dogs and cats, living together.

They are moneymakers if it is the only one that kills a certain kind of bug. There are oral antibiotics that cost thousands of dollars for a 10-day course of treatment.
Have some patience, FFS.

They are moneymakers if it is the only one that kills a certain kind of bug. There are oral antibiotics that cost thousands of dollars for a 10-day course of treatment.

The last new class of antibiotics to make it to clinic was discovered nearly three decades ago. No new antibiotics that have actually made it into doctor's hands have been discovered since 1987. However, there have been discoveries this year that could turn out to be game-changers.

The biggest obstacle to antibiotic development is that antibiotics are short course therapies, and Big Pharma would rather spend R&D money on drugs you have to take every day for the rest of your life.

Hence, the reasoning that this is one area where there needs to be gov't intervention. It is literally a matter of life and death.

Here's some doom.

http://www.express.co.uk/news/science/632054/Yellowstone-about-to-blow-1-in-10-chance-super-volcano-will-kill-millions

The good news for Denver is that if Yellowstone goes, our lives will be over in about an hour.  You suckers in the midwest are gonna have to sip your good liquor before you die.  We'll be slamming it.

Having learned from all the dystopian shows, books and movies, I am mentally prepared for whatever comes. Don't have a bomb shelter or 30 years food stockpiled though. Maybe I'll convert to the Latter Day Saints at that time and they take me in.

My plan:  Go out to the garage.  Start the car.  Fall asleep.

I'm not worried.

I'm probably gonna get shot when I go to the theater to see Star Wars anyway.

I suggest everyone get caught up on the first season and a half of "Last Man on Earth" so we can anticipate what challenges we might face post-virus.

And nuts to Keefe... I will teach myself how to fly a B-2, or at the very least, I just need to learn how to operate the ejector seat.  I can't imagine how much fun it's going to be ejecting over Lake Mendota and watching that beast crash land into Camp Randall, or the Memorial Union, or somewhere in between.  Thankfully, the size of campus makes for a pretty unmissable target.

On the last day Etta James

I saw Etta James at Jazz Alley. She was still sultry at 80.
