I like this choice for John. I spent some significant time on business back in the day in Lynchburg. It is a scenic area and the school is growing at steady pace. Looking forward to seeing him lead The Flames into the tourney next year.  Will miss him this year but hope he hits the books hard and gets some momentum.

I've met 4-5 people who've graduated from Liberty and they've all been high quality people....top shelf.  I am happy for John landing there....he enjoys the team, gets a good degree and has a great life.

I hope all these guys we watch and root for coming thru Marquette figure out life without basketball. I wonder what percent of them spend 1yr or more playing bball for a living?

Wojo'sMojo

I would like to hear Ners thoughts on this. He must be almost done with his ban??

"Give me liberty or give me death!" - Patrick Henry and John Dawson apparently.

Yep, the interracial ban was Bob Jones. But I got interested and found some nuggets from the Liberty University Handbook.

On dating: Handholding is the only appropriate form of personal contact. ... After dusk, students should not be alone with an individual of the opposite sex in any unlighted area such as the ball fields, parking lots, parked cars, ravine or other wooded areas, etc. This is considered improper social behavior.

And entertainment: No "R" rated movies and ... the Division of Student Affairs will continue teaching guidelines and principles to students related to all forms of entertainment. This would mean that many "PG-13" and some "PG" movies, although not prohibited by policy, may also be inappropriate.

Looks like John will have plenty of time to focus on basketball!

So, when MU plays Liberty we probably shouldn't expect many porn stars in the famous alumni thread?

Daniel

Seems like a good kid. I wish him all the best.

I'm guessing (hoping) that Keefe takes that as a personal challenge.  No reason to wait for the game to be scheduled...it seems to me like you've already called him out.  Keefe?

Liberty went all out to get Dawson...

Schools like Texas Tech, University of Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho State and Murray state were in the running but Liberty had the best situation to come in and be a key part of the team from Day 1. Our Family is happy with his decision and wish him the best. The Coaching staff went all out to recruit him and hes up for the challenge.... Also Liberty has a 90% chance of joining conference USA next year and also is rumored to want to get a game in the Non Conference against "Marquette"......

Good luck to John. I really wanted to see him flourish here.

Also looked up LU. Didn't know Lynchburg was named after a 17 year old John Lynch.

"First settled in 1757, Lynchburg was named for its founder, John Lynch, who at the age of 17 started a ferry service at a ford across the James River to carry traffic to and from New London. "

This is a great choice for John. I think he will flourish in many ways.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

Best of luck to John. He seemed to be a great representative of the university and teammate. I hope he finds what he is looking for at Liberty.

Glad to hear.  I met John at the BBQ this summer and he seems like a great kid.  All the best.

If you want to know what Ners thinks check out the scout board.   MU1997.   Calling people who disagree with him 'clowns'.    (sigh)   Better than 'adversaries', I guess.

Great news. Did Brad Autry help in some way connecting John with Coach Layer?

Great news. Did Brad Autry help in some way connecting John with Coach Layer?

Buzz Williams was actually was a key player in making it happen he spoke very high of John and told them that John was a hard worker and good kid.

Brad Autry wanted him at Hawaii bad but hes not a head coach and they didnt have a scholarship available until after this season.

tower912

Glad to know that Buzz is still using his vast network of contacts to try to find a good fit for JD.   Well done, Buzz.

Wish John the best.  Any idea if he has a chance to have the four minutes waived to get the redshirt?  Or if they'll institute the Josh Smith WTF Rule and not only forgive the minutes (81 in that case!) but let him play right away next year instead of after the semester?
