Luke... The team looks different when he is on the floor!

GooooMarquette

1.  Luke
2.  JJJ, Juan, Duane.

Surprised Big Fischy isn't already up on the board.

+1.  Luke.
Relax. Respect the Process.

Luke and JJJ.

For Duane... I love you but you can't go 9-17 from the charity stripe and be in the discussion.

I get that people love to go for the new (to them) player that did very well.  Or the guy that scored the most points(jjj), but I still think Duane isn't getting enough love.  Sure 9-17ft, but that's a better percentage than Luke's 1-2.  and the rest of the line compares favorably...Luke wins blocks, but Duane blows Luke away in steals, and assists...

Like.

Entire package, including defense was the difference.

Luke was bigger than the stat sheet shows. He was credited with 5 blocks, but probably alerted at least double that. Tonight wasn't just a case of being new, Luke was dominant and deserving.

I'd argue that if you take either Fischer, Duane or JJJ out of tonights game we lose the game.  I give the nod to Duane because even though his FTs didn't fall he drew 8 fouls against ASU and made them severely alter their second half rotation.

forgetful

When was the last time we had a player with 19 pts, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks.  Very rare, add to that all the altered shots and it was a dominating performance by Luke.  The guards played well, but Luke's game is a rare performance.

Look at how efficient Luke was offensively. Combine that with the downright MASSIVE impact he had on the defensive end. Duane was great tonight - Luke was better.

I'd argue that Duane wouldn't have had as good of a game without Luke. The opposite holds true as well...but not as much, IMHO

I think that's probably true, but Luke did well against Jacobson and had Blakes terrified of driving in the second half. Part of it is expectation, and when Duane goes to the line 17 times, I expect a few more makes. For me, the offense tonight was nice but the defense looked transformed, and that was pretty much all Luke.

Texas Western

Luke changed the complexion of the game with his blocked shots and presence.  So definitely SOTG. JJJ had an outstanding night. The degree of difficulty of some of his shots was very high. So he gets Honorable Mention. Duane was a force as well and gets Honorable Mention as well. The fly in the ointment with him was the missed free throws, which I think was just a case of being over excited, as most missed long.

We really could make the case for a three headed SotG tonight.  I'm just pleased that we had more than one who deserved it.

Luke had a fantastic game.  I would have changed my vote had the majority of his points been on offensive put backs, but five of his made FGs came from fantastic passes and were easy stuffs which any big would make (well Otule and Steve may have struggled).

This gets my vote.  All 3 were great.  And quite fun to watch.

How many times did ASU players think about going into the lane but change their minds because Luke was in there? How many shots did they throw awkwardly at the rim because they were worried the shots would get blocked? How many passes were fumbled because of Luke's presence? For all the "tangibles" Luke provided, the intangibles were through the roof.

Frankly, I don't think SoG should even be close, and it has nothing to do with "shiny and new."

When Luke wasn't on the court, it was as if there was a red carpet to the rim. When he was in there, it was as if a wall had been built in front of the basket.

I did not expect to be this impressed by him but I obviously was.

And really ... 9-of-17 is a better percentage than 1-2? You didn't really say that, did you, rocky? I loved what Duane brought but I'm sure he'd be the first to say 9-17 is totally unacceptable for anybody, let alone such an outstanding shooter.

I did. And it's true.

It's a tough call between the two.  I'm just soliciting more opinions before I get to throw them all away and make the decision :)

I will say one thing.

It sure is great having 3 legit SOTG canidates and a 4th(Juan) that is very deserving of honorable mention.

If we keep consistently duplicating performances like these...I will venture we have a lot of fun in BE play.

1.  Duane Wilson - It's easy to give this to Luke for obvious reasons, BUT Duane's the best player on the floor and if he makes his FT's at his usual rate it's not even close.  He was the catalyst.

1a.  Luke Fischer - Great positioning defending the rim.  Most young (and really all) big guys get their upper bodies to the spot first.  Fischer was outstanding at getting his feet there first so he could alter shots without fouling.

1b.  Jujuan Johnson - It's too bad he hasn't played this way for the last 7 games or this team wins at least one more against MSU, UW, or OSU.

2.  Juan Anderson - Seven assists and his energy set the tone from the opening tip.

This is an astute observation. That's what impressed me the most about the young man.

I agree with you that Luke changed the game last night more than anyone else.... but..... I really question your math skills.

The fish changed the complexion of the game. Quel difference!
