WI Bball fans sticking together to support all teams???

Good luck finding that one on rodent chat lines.

Grew up and live in WI as well, love MU, hate rodents.

I really never get into the emotional hate of team. I'm a fan of my team and will do whatever helps them. In this case, I cheer for the Badgers since it helps Marquette. I also cheer for the Vikings and Bears every week now since it helps the Packers (either beating the Lions, worsening their draft spot, or helping our SOS). I'm not a bitter person and could care less who wins when it isn't my team.

Not sure it has anything to do with being a bitter person if you're just rooting against them (if you are angry then maybe).  It's just a sports rivalry, and that kinda what makes watching sports fun.

F*ck that.

Honestly, after seeing MU fans on here and how they care about the rivalry much more about UW (and take it more seriously than UW) it's a wonder why people on here argue that UW's fans are the ones obsessed with MU.  Step off the ledge and just appreciate good basketball for basketball's sake.  You don't have to see eye to eye on style of play, you don't have to actively root for UW ever, but denigrating those who do because they grew up rooting for all Wisconsin's basketball teams (including UWM as well) will not help your case.

My case with who?

I will root against UW 10 times out of 10. It's a rivalry. Deal with it.

Not from Wisconsin, don't care about them for more than one game.

That being said, Wisconsin is not good basketball to watch.

Maybe if you were watching their teams from a few or several years ago, but this year's team is multi-faceted and has good talent along with chemistry (whether you choose to believe it or not).

Of course we take this game more seriously than UW, we take everything basketball-related more seriously than they do.  I have no problem admitting that, we're a basketball school.  There's just as many UW fans obsessed with MU, but then they try to pretend it's not a rivalry.

Yeah, unfortunately I agree with this. It used to be like watching paint dry but now they're a high powered offense. After all the seniors & Dekker leave this year, it will go back to watching paint dry & grinding out a 12-6 B1G record with a 6 seed in the NCAAs but no chance of advancing deep. This year is another story.

This is true, UW is playing some good basketball this year.  It's almost non-Bo Ryan-ish.

Question: do you see MU putting down UW-Madison's academics? Nope. They're conference? Nope. The student body? Nope. Go over to the scout board for UW it goes beyond basketball to calling us a second rate school (we're a great school maybe not "the Harvard of the Midwest but a damn good school) they'll call us a mid major conference (MU GTown and Nova have championships, SJU Butler and Seton Hall have runner ups, every team but two have final fours) and they'll refer to our student body as a bunch of snobby rich suburbanites.  (Which might be a great deal of kids at MU but I've had many a friend at UW and there's plenty of those at UW to). We may be obsessed with the basketball rivalry much much more but you guys have a weird obsession with putting MU down over there.

Agreed, Boxer. And that's not to mention the thinly veiled racism that they let fly when Buzz was beating them with JUCO guys.

Their team is excellent, and the way they execute is impressive. It's their fans that make me loathe their program.

There was nothing 'thinly veiled' about it.

That would be great, just think next year about the rivalry and having 2 pretty good teams in the state, not bad.  Fisher and Ellenson vs. Hayes and Stone, sweet match-ups like to see it.

Im actually rooting for Wisconsin. Thats how much i despise the ACC

I refuse to let myself think about the possibility!

But yeah if they do, it obviously changes their outlook.

Here's a better hypothetical... what if WE land Diamond?? I know there's ~1% chance... but WHAT IF???

In life, it is good to have rules to follow. It makes questions like the one posed initially easy to answer. I have a 10 very simple rules in my life:

1. Never root for Cincinnati unless they are playing Louisville, Duke, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech (2014 Amendment), Indiana or Wisconsin.

2. Never root for Louisville unless they are playing Duke, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech (2014 Amendment), Indiana or Wisconsin.

3. Never root for Duke unless they are playing Notre Dame, Virginia Tech (2014 Amendment), Indiana or Wisconsin.

4. Never root for Notre Dame unless they are playing Virginia Tech (2014 Amendment), Indiana or Wisconsin.

5. Never root for Virginia Tech unless they are not coached by Buzz.

6. Never root for Indiana unless they are not coached by Crean.

7. If Virginia Tech plays Indiana, hope for a tie, or hibernate until news reports on the outcome are no longer readily available.

8. Never, ever root for Wisconsin regardless who is coaching.

9. If Virginia Tech plays Wisconsin or Indiana plays Wisconsin, curl up in the fetal position, suck thumb and quietly sob, "no, no, no, no, no, no" over and over. NOTE: Happens at least twice per year. \

10. Never, ever, ever, root for Wisconsin. Or, Michigan football.

The Lens

I'm of the belief that the Badger fans we all hate, never even attended UW.

Not a bad list, but Notre Dame should be above VT and Indiana on your hate list, maybe even above Wisconsin.

It is an interesting quandary. Without forgetting the ND rivalry at its height, I thought to myself, "am I currently more apt to look and see if VA Tech or Indiana lost on any given night or Notre Dame." The former was the answer, primarily because the ND rivalry seems to be on hold. So, my hate is ever so slightly dissipated.

If I had evidence that a Wisconsin victory really would be good for us somehow, I wouldn't be upset or disappointed if Bucky wins.

But that's a far cry from "rooting" or "cheering" for them.

Regardless of whether a UW win would somehow be good for us, however, I'm guessing that when the toss is made for the opening tip, I will root against Wisconsin out of sheer habit.

As for what I'd really love to see happen ...

Kaminsky and Okafor go up for a rebound, one of them throws an elbow (but misses -- I never root for injury) and they start to scuffle a little. Then, before their teammates can intercede, Frank and Jahlil lock eyes, realize they have so much in common despite their many differences, decide they "complete" each other, and walk off the court hand-in-hand. They give up basketball, go to a commune in Oregon and live happily ever after.
