No one said LW was some kind of stud AD.  What I object to is that he did his job and tried to contain someone that needed to be reminded about a few things, and for that the pant pissers here got upset.  In the end, he was exactly correct in his concerns.  But, in this world there is always a school somewhere that will hire a coach if they win enough and look past some things, but for some people like Lenny that is proof of something....I don't know what, but he seems to like it.  I'd remind him that Pat Kennedy got hired multiple places...Bruce Pearl...Todd Bozeman...Quin Snyder...Larry Eustachy...Tim Floyd....just to name a few.  Just win baby.  All it takes is one  school....especially one with one NCAA berth in 20+ years.

The problem isn't that he did things that needed to be done.  It was how he did those things that were the problem.  His execution was clumsy in that he didn't build the base of support he needed.

Chicos - you are such a troll, it's unbelievable. Isn't it you who CONSTANTLY brings up the Chicago Tribune's "coverage" of what was going on in our athletic department? Yet you hold ND's up as some city of gold? This despite a student killing herself after allegations of sexual assault against a football player were swept under the rug? This is the same athletic department who saw a student manager KILLED because he was asked to climb a scaffolding in conditions that were like something out of the Wizard of Oz?

How has coverage of their athletic department been? This is not to mention some academic issues, which I don't really think are all that bad, or the fact that they gave fat, boorish and Caucasian Charlie White a helluva a lot more leeway and money than they did Tyrone Willingham.

Are you telling me you don't remember any of this? That it wasn't covered in the media? Their athletic department has been a borderline disgrace for the past decade.

Can we be just like them?

For the record, I already like this guy better than Larry Williams if only because we haven't yet heard where his kids go to college. Anybody will be an upgrade over that buffoon.

And I'll be going to tailgate and see one the buffoon's kids play on Sept. 27 in a special game of Army vs. Yale to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Yale Bowl.

Nailed it.

In the past few years the ND athletic department/football machine has stonewalled a sexual assault allegation that caused a young woman's death, ordered a student manager to walk the plank to his death, covered up the exceedingly odd (at best) behavior their star football player, overseen multiple academic cheating scandals and celebrated the return to the playing field of their most famous cheater. They literally have blood on their hands - more than once. It's a record that would make the worst SEC football program or the Indiana basketball program under Kelvin Sampson ashamed. Our flagship program (basketball) looks like the Naval Academy by comparison, but ND wannabee Chico rips us while extolling their virtues. No secret why. He loves form over substance, something Notre Dame encourages in spades.

Uh oh...honeymoon's over:  ND '09; Ball State '12; ND '14.  It was in the press release (which was quoted in the first post).

I choose to direct my outrage at different oppressive systems. Fake pro bball is one I can sit back and enjoy despite the lack of purity under the covers. I mean no one has to choose to be an AD.

Please tell me he's getting his Ph.D. in Sports Management or something, because then he would be the perfect guy to keep the Athletic Department on good footing.

Since the Scholl foot family is from Chicago, I thought there might be a connection.  But I don't think there is because he is an Ohio native.

Actually, we did hear where his kids went to college....two went to Notre Dame, one went to Ball State.  Right there in the profile....you just had to read it.

Your criticism is fair.  Point taken.

My comments were about the success of their sports, which we cannot compare to.  Your point about some of their other issues....you are exactly right.   You are wrong about Sampson, I drilled IU often about Sampson.

Amen, Lenny. And No Dick gets away with with all this because they exercise their arrogant power frequently while the media laps them up. Just further examples of why ND should be blasted i stead of regaled.

So you want us to hire guys as ADs who learned do it the "ND way", which turns out to be "Just win, baby", but you object to coaches who (you think) feel that way also. Priceless.

Agreed. ND only hates schools it is envious of.   They believe they are far superior to MU and feel we are lucky to even be able to schedule a game with them.
Another example of ND arrogance. They hate all schools except the pigeons they schedule to pad their record.

Long day on the road in Denver.  Then I get to read this BS.... ;)

Lets not kiss his ring because he's a Domer.  His poop smells too.  Remember, he comes from the athletic department that has botched  several sexual assaults in a HUGE way, the Manti whatever fiasco (god, they looked liked idiots covering for that moron), and the recent cheating scandal.

Dick Rosenthal is the guy who brought all the money to ND with TV deals back in the 80's.  He was a neighbor, and a good guy.  He also gave that slobbering idiot, Lou Holtz. a pass after Holtz had his prints all over a scandal from his days at Minnesota.

Yes, ND's poop does stink.

BS, I'll be on campus in a couple of weeks.  PM me if you want to go for bowl of chili.  We can talk dirty ankles and stuff
That is 80% of their arrogance problem. They actually believe that their poop does not stink, but should be marketed to NBC.

River rat

It would appear we are all in agreement about chicos, smh

One thing that no one mentioned is the fact that he's very familiar with the Big East. He's worked with 7 out of the 10 schools and I'm sure, being an Indiana guy, he knows people at Butler. Notre Dame was part of the Big East the majority of time he was there so having those relationships can only help.

I'm a fan of this hire.

Obviously ND has made huge mis-steps with regards to its athletic department.  They are hardly perfect.  However if you look at what Scholl did there, it was easy to see why MU was attracted to him.  He oversaw a great deal of their revenue generation efforts.  (In fact, LW might have actually worked for Scholl since both oversaw licensing at one point.)

Only time will tell if this was a good hire, but he has a lot more experience, and more varied experience than LW had.

I'm not opposed to the hire, the guy may be terrific. I hope he is. I just laugh at the concept that having an ND background somehow puts him on a higher ethical plane than we who are not worthy. Total hogwash.

Yeah well that's Chicos.  He tends to like the entrenched establishment while never acknowledging the mistakes the establishment has made.  Whether its the Goodell issue...the Redskins issue...Notre Dame...his love of the 1950s...whatever.

ND hates Michigan and USC. MU isn't quite on that level of hate.

Back when BS was a student at ND, we were the best Catholic basketball program in the country.

He opened his press conference by naming Al, Chones, Meminger, Lee, Ellis, etc and that he's seen them all in person and that him and Majeous have Ball St. ties. He remembers them well and knows the history of our program.

C'mon, Sultan--the 50's was a good decade. Leave it to Beaver with Eddie Haskell was great. And who can ever forget the cold war and bomb shelters. And Elvis---and that devil worshipping rock and roll music.
And that all time classic, "In the Still of the Night" Don't ever sell the 50's short. Unless this is just a veiled slam to "old guys" which is starting to become more prevalent on Scoop. Everybody knows that the internet is only cool to use if you are under 35.
