" A source within the administration confirmed to Paint Touches earlier in the year that Williams was fired in part to please a prominent donor who thought Larry did not appreciate Buzz enough."

Boom. Dropping bombs! Finally!

Seriously? Am I missing some teal or something? Because if that's true it kind of deserves its own story and not a buried afterthought.

Not thrilled about the ND connection for the simple fact he probably hated MU at some point, especially since he was at ND as a student in the late 70's. Now I don't doubt he'll do his best to lead MU's athletics, but of all the schools in all the land why did we have to hire a Domer?

Really? Do you really think domers give a sh## about MU? We are the ones who obsess, not them. He worked in one of the best Atletic departments in the country for a long time. The Domers get it done. He is a solid hire. If some of the Irish luck rubs off, we are in better shape.

Here's the mind blower for me, Scholl was hired by Ball State April 30, 2012, four months after MU hired Larry Williams.  So, Pilarz could most likely could have hired this guy in the first place and saved MU a lot of grief.  Oi Vey!  Another nail in the Pilarz coffin.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

That must have been a very strong donor.  Kind of a dick move to get the AD fired and all.

I'm done for the day.

Or he could've been the one canned and we hire LW now.

They win a lot and are a great academic school. I hope we go the opposite direction!
Yes--and don't forget that they are now glorifying that academic cheater, their current QB, Golson. Unrelated, but probably an interesting study: How many students cheat on exams, get kicked out of school, and then return to the same school? Anybody know? Would think that most kids in that scenario would be too embarrassed--but not Golson. And the ND faithful have forgotten and forgiven--as long as he is winning football games.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

I don't know.  Because their student body and alumni base are a bunch of brie eating namby pambys?
You forgot one word, "arrogant". "A bunch of arrogant brie eating namby pambys.

You are forgetting that Buzz did not approve of the Williams hire, and is not there now to approve/disapprove of this hire.

My way of thinkin': No way Marquette hires Larry Williams without Pilarz as president.  A laissez faire attitude toward fundraising was necessary for that to happen.

source?

has he been fitted for a walking boot?

1) He's a Domer, so what? Maybe he signed on at Marquette so that even at this late stage of his life, he could obtain a real education!

2) Seriously, let's not be judgmental. Let's give this time to work. basketball is too big a cash cow to be cheap about it and something tells me this guy is pretty good.

ChicosBailBonds

I knew two people that interviewed about 4 to 6 weeks ago.  Spoke to both of them and they said the "process" was good, they enjoyed the experience, it was well run, etc.  Obviously didn't post that here.

Scholl was not one of those people.  Hopefully he is a solid choice.  For those complaining about past experience, this is always the type of person MU is going to get if it hires from within the college ranks because of the lack of football.  For the record, those two I mention above were coming from outside, though in former lives they had college athletics experience long ago.

I have no problem with a Notre Dame grad at the helm, but realize that is a death sentence for some of you.  I'm sure UF fans wouldn't want a FSU guy running their department, or OSU having a Michigan person.   It is what it is.

Welcome to MU, B.S.

tower912

I will judge this AD, as I did his predecessor.   By his words and his actions.   The whole ND thing is just rivalry smack talk.   When I thought LW did a good job, I said so.   When I didn't, I said so.   On balance, due to his words and actions, I was not a fan of LW.   But I give Mr. Scholl a clean slate.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

ChicosBailBonds

What is a no brainer with this hire, just like the LW hire is that MU is going to win a certain way.  If the Wojo hire didn't send off major signal to that cause, I don't know what does.

Many ways to skin the cat on winning, and that's going to rub a lot of people here the wrong way.

Buzz couldn't handle that way of winning, so he got the AD canned when it should have been the AD getting Buzz canned.  Ultimately, justice prevailed.

With the new pres, with Wojo and this hire (similar to LW), we're going to keep on winning but we're going to win in a different way.  Let the screaming begin.

We glorified Rick Majerus who admitted to cheating at Marquette in school.  How does that make us any different?

We used to celebrate what separated us from the arrogance in South Bend. Now the goal is to be their not quite as bright little brother. Whoopee!

I agree with my old friend Lenny.   I'm sure Scholl is a great guy, competent in all respects.    Nonetheless, my preference is that MU not try too hard to emulate ND.  Felt that way when Williams was hired--how'd that work out?  Scholl's a Domer, just like we're Warriors or Golden Eagles.  This hire makes me wonder as to the quality of the other applicants, too.   On the other hand, having to overcome his obvious handicap, he must be something special.

Nonetheless, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope for great success.
