ESPN's 2015 Top 100 Updated - 6/3/2014; Scout - 6/6/2014
« on: June 03, 2014, 08:16:13 PM »
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/playerrankings/_/class/2015

I don't get into these rankings much other than to see if there are guys I think folks are way off on.

There remains some on the list.. and I'll share a couple in this post. But first.. onto Henry. My thoughts on him go back years and have been consistent.. but even on this board.. some of the recent commentary:

April 2013
Henry is currently underrated in rankings and has the potential to be an exceptional college player. As his ball handling, speed & quickness improve the reality of being a 3/4 in college becomes more and more realizable. His skills are there. He can get down low and bang, but likes to run & work on the perimeter as well.

He's played a number of different ways in high school, AAU, at camps (including playing with the 'bigs' group at the US MDNT camp along with/against Diamond)... getting quite well rounded.

June 2013
MU is in the mix and those that have him ranked in the upper 20's have him underrated.

Early April 2014
Playground Elite Wilson (YUS!) - Henry "HenBA" Ellenson has of course been one of my favorites for a long while. Underrated nationally - let's watch the respect elevate.

Finally ESPN has seen what's always been evident. They've put him at #5.

Rivals has him at #56. Scout at #62. Crazy. They'll figure it out as well.

Now, onto some other guys who may be 'values' at their current ranking.. i.e., they are better than their newest ESPN ranking... and some other guys I just have random comments on...

Brandon Ingram #12. Not kidding.
Dwayne Bacon at #40. C'mon now. Big time. Had MU interest from the former clan... Floridian.
(Right below him at #41 is Teki Gill-Caeser... from CIA Bounce [Canada].. has MU interest and there are similarities between him and a recent MU cager -- Wesley Matthews. Keep an eye on dude.)
(Nick N. is in at #50.. sounds fine.)
Georgetown has some big boys coming in.. Jessie Govan (#48) and Noah Dickerson (#66)... both could move up.
..and one I can't stress enough. #77 Horace Spencer. 77?! That is crazy talk. Watch for him to R I S E. Great year though.

edit: Oh yeah, I'll give you one more. Damontrae Jefferson isn't even on the list. Brewtown's own is sensational.

I liked what Finklstein was saying about Ellenson, especially the bolded section

Quote
2. Oh, Henry. No player has made a more dramatic jump up the rankings than Henry Ellenson, who went all the way from No. 47 to No. 5 in the ESPN 100. Ellenson averaged 18 points and 9 rebounds per game for Playground Elite during the EYBL season, showing a versatile and unique game for a 6-foot-9 power forward, all while continuing to raise his level of his production with each passing week. He can shoot the ball from the 3-point line but is also a threat to put the ball on the floor. He is perhaps most effective when he’s able to get out and run in transition.

I like the idea of a true big who is most effective when he's in transition

Charles Matthews fell about 20 slots. Coach Cal has been going hard after Malik Newman. This is admittedly a stretch, but if Matthews gets recruited over, he may think about taking his services elsewhere. Extremely unlikely but a man can dream!

Thanks Jay Bee.  If Stone and Ellenson end up RSCI Top10, will that be the first time two Wisconsinites end up in the Top 10?

Do we have a realistic chance of landing Stone and/or Ellenson? One more than the other?

We will not get either.

We will get both. Anything less is unacceptable. Beware Wojo, Willie is watching.

Wouldn't be so sure on Ellenson. Stone isn't gonna happen.

How Jalen Brunson is only 22nd I will never know. Kid is the best high school basketball player I've seen since Derrick Rose.

Of course, unacceptable doesn't mean that anything should happen to Wojo, it just means that MU should accept the unacceptable.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Sean millers teams are fun to watch - tall, long, and all uber athletic. He's a heck of a recruiter. He has #23 and #24. He seems to have a roster full of switchables but all of them are SF's instead of guards.

O$U with #43, #62, #87

$yracuse with #15, #44, #59, #70

Never seen him but hear that offensively he has it all. Only (slight) problem is he's closer to 6' than the 6'2" he's listed at - pretty short for a 2 guard.

Just like when Madison was in Tokoto's and Looney's top 5s.

Madison was. They didn't get either. But they were in the running until the very end. If you had come out a month before Tokoto or Looney announced and said "they are not going to Madison," you would have been lodging a guess, not stating a fact. Just like you are doing now.

This is a fan board. It is a great place to log predictions. I get annoyed when people try to pass predictions off as facts.

MU being in Diamond's top 3 and Ellenson's top 5 is a FACT as of two weeks ago. I have not asked about either since then. Unless you have fresher information, saying neither will come to Marquette at this point is an OPINION.

1 You don't know that.

2.What difference does it make, he's not our coach.

3. If it would have been "unacceptable" for Buzz not to land a top 5 big man from our home state will it be twice as unacceptable (double secret probation?) if Wojo misses on both? Just checking to see if there's any consistency to your outrageous "demands".

He's a point guard.

Nonetheless, I think ~20-25 is an appropriate ranking for him.
