Man those were two great players. A little OT but Dillards son got an offer from Cinci the other day, good for him cause he ran into a lot of trouble in high school. Probably could have gone to a big time program had he not gotten in trouble.
Wasn't his son Quitman, who played for SLU like 15 years ago? Maybe his grandson? (Gulp.)

I thought Quitman was his brother.

And didn't Skip spend many years in prison?  When did have a son?  Orange is the new Black?

Is the package thing a done deal?

were conley and oden a package deal to ohio state?

I think it was Oden and Titus, Oden committing to tOSU lured Titus away from Harvard. Conley was an added bonus.

Okafor and Jones -Duke

Not to be picky, but what is the definition of "package deal?"  If Duke passed on Jones, or signed another highly rated PG and Jones decided to go elsewhere, Okafor would automatically follow?

Was Jones and Okafor a case of "both or neither?"  Or was it a case that two buddies were independently offered by Duke and both decided to go?

Not an explicit package, Wade and Blankson were at least close friends before both came to MU.

And in a bit of irony Blankson transferred because Wade got to play on the perimeter and handle/shoot the ball while he was stuck (unfairly, in his mind) out of position at the 4.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

If it is truly a package deal, it hurts us. Malik Newman has never been linked to Marquette. More likely they end up at a blue blood that has been recruiting both of them.

That being said, these package deals rarely work out. Okafer/Jones and Miller/Bello are the only two I can think of from recent memory.

Just what I said a few posts back.

Stretchdeltsig

Why the pessimism?  Marquette is a gold blood, better than most blue bloods.  MU invested the second most money of all schools on its basketball program last year.

BCHoopster

I they handed out money to the players they would be more like Kentucky then.

Does this come with a side of duck butter?

Dawson Rental

I'm not liking this.  Whether it happens or not, it indicates that Kentucky is now back in the race.  Kentucky seems to be using Malik Newman to help convince Diamond to go there.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

MUchamp22

Ahmed Hill and Jakeenan Gant were supposed to be a package deal, but they decided to go to different schools and that's what usually happens. I would be really surprised if the Stone/Newman Package holds true

Why don't we hear about partial qualifiers anymore?  "Prop 48"?  Or do they all just go Juco?

There is no such thing as a partial qualifier. Gone are those days. You might still hear it occasionally - people get confused - but it doesn't exist. You're either a qualifier or a nonqualifier.

HOWEVER, there are limited circumstances in which a nonqualifier has been given a partial waiver and is allowed to be on athletic scholarship and/or practice. That is unusual, though.

When kids talk about being a 'package deal' I usually chalk it up to kids talking. Just saying words. Occasionally there are exceptions (Tyus and Jahlil were adamant about it and followed through).

The portal is NOT closed.

Earvin "Magic" Johnson and Jamie "Shoes" Huffman, Michigan State 1977-79.
Huffman was a little used Spartan sub who usually entered games at garbage time. In one tournament blowout during the 79 championship run he came in at the end and promptly lost his shoe on national TV. MSU played four on five ball for about two minutes or so without any visible impact on the game while he tried to get his shoe back on. MSU did not call a timeout.
Al who did the broadcast along with Dick Enberg and Billy Packer promptly named him "Shoes." Since he had gone to the same high school as Magic, Al told the world Huffman had been the key part of a recruiting package that had landed Johnson.
Huffman did not go on the the NBA with Magic but he is still called "Shoes."

Well, good luck at Kentucky, Diamond.

Time to shift our focus to Henry Ellenson.

So these guys hang out together at AAU tournaments and decide they have to attend the same college lol. Unreal...I could see if youve known each other or have a history, but otherwise it's kind of amusing to me. Wojo should just focus on Ellenson and cut his losses with Stone now.

Just another example of all that is wrong with AAU ball, handlers, shoe contracts and what the game has become. Sure miss the old days.

This has Kentucky written all over it.
