Definitely agree...and also think Deonte Burton will be a great rep from Marquette.  As I recall when Buzz left, Burton and Duane were the first two kids to re-affirm their commitment to Marquette...as a school/university...even before new coach was hired.  Milwaukee kids who want to do great things in Milwaukee and be example for others in the city.

Can't wait for next season to kick off....think it will be a really good season...Mayo and Burton will be stars...and our PG position will be vastly upgraded...those few things alone will help offset the loss of Jamil and Davante.

I kind of feel like we lost Jamil when we lost Vander.  Last year, he really wasn't nearly the player he was as a junior.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Haha.  Yeah.  I mean it isn't like he scored more points, grabbed more boards, dished out more assists than the previous season.  Oh wait.  He did all those things.

To be honest, there have been other places where I have seen this besides Badger boards.  He's very smart and can shoot, but there is some concern about whether or not he can defend at the high D1 level.

But I am very glad that he recommitted.

What better mentor to learn how to play defense than coach Wojo; not too concerned.

Oh I agree, but that criticism of his game isn't limited to Badger boards.

So youre saying Derrick should stay an extra yea to be a game changer on defense?

I'm glad Jamil was able to live up to your expectations last season. That makes one of you.

The statement was he wasn't nearly the player he was the year before.  That is just statistically untrue.

And I'm sorry Jamil let you down.  So sad for you.  Frown.

That school is going to be pretty good with Nick and Duane both attending.

The game is more than numbers, Chuckler. I like Jamil, but fact is he disappeared last year when he was most needed and with VB here, that likely would not have happened.

Probably not, because it would have been Vander in the spotlight, no one would have been looking at Jamil.

This is great stuff and a good sign that Wojo can get it done.

Sucks he couldn't keep Hill and company but that was understandable in such a short time frame.

Great that he has kept the in state kids so far

Couple points - As posted, Jamil improved in Points, Assists, Rebounds over his junior season...but really, what do you want from the guy when he was consistently rolled out with this lineup:

Derrick, Jake, Juan, Chris

You are an opposing coach - who are you trying to take away?  Jamil having to play with the worst starting and max minute backcourt in the last 15 years of MU basketball resulted in Jamil not taking the huge step up many thought...

Hell he went to Portsmouth tourney and scored 18...named to tourney team, with Gardner being named MVP.  So ironic they were able to play at a high level when playing with a capable backcourt.

Jamil as a junior was missing in action just like this year until March. He played hard in NCAA tournament games, but was not motivated in the regualr season games. Same thing as a sophomore.

That was the rap on him in HS too.  The guy can be a real talent when he gets his head in the game.

I don't buy that assessment at all of Jamil.  Never saw him dogging it.  Say what you want about Buzz, but he demanded effort and passion from his players.  Jamil is a finesse player, nothing more than that.

I think Jamil needed to find his "onions" as Raftery likes to say.  Case in point- end of double OT against St. John's, senior day, MU down a point, ball is in Jamil's hands with under 10 seconds and he passes to Derrick Wilson for another clank off the rim.  No way should he have given up that ball in that situation.

Don't forget that he almost lead MU to it's first losing season in 15 years.  Who can forget four straight losses to end the season?  But, wow, in four more minutes a game, he scored 2 more points, got one more rebound, and almost one more assist.  What else went up?  Turnovers and personal fouls.  But, not everything went up.  Especially not offensive efficiency.  How can it when you have more turnovers, and you hit the trifecta with a drop in FG%, 3pt FG%, and FT%.

Sorry if I rained on your fond memories of Marquette's glorious season past with all those stirring last minute heroics from Jamil to pull out close games.
