Whats Wojo's plan?

Do anyone know exactly how Wojo plans to coach?

Coaching style? Is his offense guard oriented? What does he look for in players/recruits?

Serious responses only!

I'm excited about Wojo and hope he can elevate this program

Recruit players who can pass, dribble, and shoot.  Win basketball games.  Teach kids to become young men.

I assume Duke will be the model. Up-tempo offense...plenty of three-point shots...and a strong defense. I think Wojo will be recruiting more traditionals and fewer tweeners. I also think he'll be focusing on recruits who aren't afraid to open a text book or attend class.

Can't speak for opening a book, but attending class has not been a problem for Marquette basketball, at least from the 2007-2008 season to the 2010-2011 season.  And since the same coach was here from that last season through this past season I would assume that hasn't changed.  Had a number of players in the same classes as me during my time at Marquette and the thing I was most impressed about with them was that unless they were playing a game pretty much that day, they were in class.  Even if they would be playing an 8 PM game out on the East Coast that ended at 10 PM, they would still be in their 9:00 AM class the next morning.  I would guess the earliest they would be back on campus would've been about 1:00 AM and they were still there for class the next day.

I likes that.

Is he the originator of that silliness or was that already a Duke thing when he showed up? Either way it is pretty stupid.

So more white guys and by no means any Dwyane Wade types. Glad that has you excited for our future. Color me unconvinced.

Leave it to a sh*thead like you to automatically link "opening a text book" and "attending class" with "white guys."

So sad that is your first reaction. Pathetic.

Ugh...not sure why we have to turn this into a racial thing.

Here are some thoughts based on what Duke does:

**Much greater emphasis on spacing, which a premium placed on outside shooting to create such space.
**Bigs that don't post up as much as they run the floor and can step out and shoot mid-range.
**More off the ball movement.
**Less emphasis on the dribble drive, although Duke has relied more on that in the last couple of years.
**A defense that sits back more and isn't as aggressive as we have seen under Buzz.  More of a traditional, help defense.

I concur. I don't want "floor slaps" to be associated with Marquette.

No idea who started it.  I clearly remember Cubillan doing it on a number of occasions, and think Diener might have done it as well.

To me, it's kind of a risk thing - how much do you want to risk looking stupid? If you slap the floor and make a huge defensive play, it can really get the crowd and team pumped.  Doesn't look quite so dumb.  But if your man blows past you or hits a 3 right over you when your hands are on the floor, well.... :o

I4 adopted it at MU during his tenure.  Not sure if Wojo started it or not.

I had a friend who would slap the floor on D - this was HS ball - this was in the early 60's.

Spotcheck Billy

it's a guard thing, bigs can't reach the floor to slap it

You make an absolutely unfounded and denigrating remark (that on the surface at least seems racist) about our former players and I'm the sh#thead. Talk about pathetic. Grow up "Groin Pull".

Curious who Wojo hires to fill out his staff. Hoping for a recruiter type, as neither Carrawell or Phelps seem to come in with that reputation.

The #1 seeded Michigan team that lost to eventually national champion Villanova back in 1985 slapped the floor like that.  The reason I know that is because my girlfriend had a thing for Antoine Joubert (Michigan guard), and we watched them lose that game on the couch in her living room...she was outwardly upset...I was inwardly happy.

That Michigan team was the #2 team in the country at the start of the tournament.  (Behind Georgetown of course.)  Roy Tarpley, Richard Relliford, Gary Grant...

TAMU, Knower of Ball

Judging on the players he has been watching and offering, it looks like he places a high value on bigs and shooting.

Duke is most know for it's shooting and "traditional" style of play. But they have won in many different ways. I trust Wojo will adapt his style to the personnel that he has.

Judging from his past posts about how fine the girls in his past have been I think that's a fairly accurate statement.

It seems you were the one to make that connection.  In case another one of your multiple personalities made the original post, I can quote the relevant passage:

"I think Wojo will be recruiting more traditionals and fewer tweeners. I also think he'll be focusing on recruits who aren't afraid to open a text book or attend class."
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.
