This. If people are really that upset about Colbert being a liberal then go watch Fox News. The Late Show isnt  a political show.

If people are upset about Colbert being a liberal they better stop watching TV and movies all together.

Libertarians make great comics. Their lack of loyalty to a political party is apparent when taking swipes at everybody. Adam Carolla, Gavin McInnes, Penn Jillette, Greg Gutfeld, Trey Parker & Matt Stone. I much prefer the individuality of their opinions as opposed to the rank and file taking marching order.

We got a lot of laughs from Rand Paul in a couple other threads here.

Depends. Do the 1980's count?

Dennis Miller Live aired from 1994-2002 on HBO. As has been stated in previous threads, Norm Macdonald always killed as a guest. I miss that show.

Rand Paul was pretty funny in Sacha Baren Cohen's:  Bruno  as well.  We might be on to something here!

I would have taken Howard Stern to do late night.  He's the best interviewer, bar none.

He couldn't carry the Man Show when Kimmel left.  Plus, he's stated that he's not a guy who's gung ho on being a tireless worker in order to get a big time show.  He's comfortable with where he's at.  Funny guy, but doesn't seem like the type to have the "big chair".

He wasn't on the man show after Kimmel left....they left together after 4 seasons.

Besides Carolla wouldn't go up against his BFF Kimmel in late night.
"A Plan? Oh man, I hate plans. That means were gonna have to do stuff. Can't we just have a strategy......or a mission statement."

Carolla's crack about women not being funny would impact his ability to book certain types of guests.
Have some patience, FFS.

I don't think you understand his stance and are taking a microscopic view at his statement that boils down to (paraphrasing here) 'certain people are better at certain things'. As for females on his show, he employs a number of them on his digital network and books them constantly as guests.

I would love to see a dollar amount that CBS floated to Stern. I am really curious if CBS wants to take the show to LA. If that were the case, I think Stern would take his own name out of the conversation.

Colbert's conservatism is shtick.   What amazes me is the people who don't realize it.   Funny conservatives?  Does Dennis Miller count?

"That's it for the news.  I am out of here."

That was back when the Churchlady on SNL.

Stern took his name out.  There was a story the other day.  He said he had enough on his plate and he didn't feel he was a good fit.

Fox "News" was funny Tuesday morning congratulating UConn on winning the 2014 NAACP championship.

Saw that. Is it bad that that did not surprise me? I cannot watch that network even for a minute.

Does anybody remember this awful, awful attempt at conservatives trying to be funny? Probably the worst television show ever made.

Just turn on weekend update this year. Cecily Strong isn't funny. Thankfully, the segment is under 15 minutes.

Agreed, only reason I have Sirius.  Almost glad he wasn't interested, probably would have cut his talk show to only 1-2 mornings a week.

I totally agree. Its pretty painful. Colbert makes you appreciate how hard it is to do this thing day in and day out, and keep it funny.

I'd suspect he took his name out the same as Cuonzo took his name out of the running for MU coach.

Don't want those rejections on the resume. But if they ever need a guest to throw bologna at a female guest's bare a$$, they can still book Howard.

These shows are a total grind. I heard Jay Leno say that he would do between 30 and 40 new jokes in his opening monologue. They can't all be funny, but all of these shows run on new material.

Not to turn this into a Stern thread, but he really doesn't do that stuff anymore.  Except when he had the porn star on the other week, who is going to space.   ;D

But he gets A list interviews, and they are fantastic.

Absolutely

Lewis Black...George Carlin...Doug Stanhope, etc.   I'll take a comedian that rips both sides any day over the talking points memo these guys have....especially the hands off embargo treatment of the last 5 years.  Comedians can't be comedians right now.  Sad

Dana Carvey spoke of if it last year....the kid glove treatment.  It changed slightly when Leno was on his way out because he had nothing to lose, otherwise just carrying the water.

Don't get me wrong, I love liberal comedians, conservative comedians, etc.  I just know what I'm getting when I see them.  A lot of really dumb, low information voters out there that don't and take Stewart, Colbert, etc as "news", etc.

The only people I knew who took the Colbert Report as news were my conservative friends who didn't realize it was satire.
