How did Shaka play us? Shaka played himself....We have better facilities, an established program, and were offering north of 3 million. At VCU he will have to wait for those facilities, keep establishing the program, and will get a raise that will put him somewhat closer to 3 million but not super close.

If he doesn't want what we offered its his decision to mess up.

It seems like Ben Howland is/was there for the taking, and now almost a week later no deal has been made. I understand and agree if there's a chance we can land Shaka Smart, especially with the connection with Doc, we give it our best shot. But Howland isn't going to wait forever.

I doubt if Cords just started courting Smart 24 hours ago. And I doubt that you believe that.
Cords knew about Buzz leaving several days before the announcement was made, so he had to have the feelers already started. My opinion is, you give the guy your best offer up front, let him know that, and that he is #1 and give a deadline of 24 hours-48 hours. That is all it takes to say Yea or Nay. The rest is just a huge dance. You move on.
That is why I believe that.

I have already said that either Smart or Howland would be fine. I never believed from minute 1 that Smart would be interested, but certainly he would be worth a shot. We should know the answer by now. Now it appears that Howland withdrew.

Howland would be a good fit. There are probably more out there.
