If we are waiting on the NCAA tournament, what about Tony Bennett as the next coach?  Should we be rooting for Virginia to lose?

Yes

Hes built something at Virginia. Doubt if he will come.  Maybe for Wisconsin but not us

Warrior_2002

That would be awesome.  He'd be my #1 just as he was when we hired Buzz.  I just don't see it.  Wasn't there a falling out with him at UW?  Or is he going to be Bo's successor?

Shaka will be Bo's successor.

Current base is $1.8M, bonuses achieved of $400k = $2.2M, with potential to earn up to $3.1M in total this year.  UVA will also give him a raise.  Turned the UVA program into a winner and a contender in the ACC.  Just don't see what his motivation would be.

Shaka isn't going to wait that long.

Jeter is succeeding Bo at UW.  Watch and see.  It may not be until Bo is ten years older than when Keady retired, but I have a very strong feeling that Rob is going to be the next HC at UW.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Ask his father?

There have been plenty of people hinting at this all week...I don't see why he'd leave UVA but if we had a shot at him, hell yeah. What do others think about this? Might as well start some wild speculation on a new guy

I find it hard to believe Tony Bennett would leave the ACC and UVA for Marquette, let alone any job outside of UW.  Buzz leaving to coach a team that finished 2-16 in the conference, should be a strong indicator that the ACC is a top basketball conference.  While we would all love to see Tony Bennett coaching at Marquette, that is a pipe dream if there ever were one.

In the event that dream were to come true, he would likely leave to succeed Bo.

Eight years as a coach

Number of years Bennett's teams have played at a pace faster than #315 in the country: Zero

Number of years his offense has been top 25: One (this year)

Number of years his defense has been top 25: Six

A slow, defensive team that's not great on offense.

That is odd, Brett taught us that you earn the right to make shots.  You would think with that defense they could chuck half-courters and the basketball gods would make them all fall.

Those two things are not logically connected.  The ACC is a top basketball conference.  Why Buzz went to VPI is not quite as clear cut.

BO RYAN is more likely to be the next Marquette head coach than TB.

1) I'm pretty sure you don't know why Buzz left.
2) Tony's ties to UW began with his father and ended with Bo.  Why does everyone keep painting him cardinal and white?!?

Thanks, facts are sooo refreshing. As a footnote, when Brent was ready to bail for SMU, there was an expression of interest by Bennett in Marquette. I don't think Bennett has a great feeling about UW for family reasons.

Didn't we try to get him after Crean left?

His dad isn't nearby.  My folks live in Lewiston, ID and I can safely say that as members of both local country clubs in the valley they see each other several times a month on the course.

Love the GIF and agree with its message...Paint Touches are crap...and to obsess about them even more ridiculous.  Take the first good shot available, regardless of if a paint touch has occurred in a possession.

As for Tony Bennett....I think a case can be made for how he might consider MU...yet see that as a long shot.  In my recollection, it was Cords who hired Mike Deane instead of Dick Bennett back in 1994...As a result of that...Cords and Dick Bennett have a familiarity with one another...and perhaps Bennett Senior turned Cords down then.  Could make a case for as to why Tony Bennett might consider MU...wouldn't entirely rule out his candidacy.

The thing with the Mike Deane hire....there was some panic by MU if you ask some.  Deane was ready to take the Dayton job but MU got in the mix after Kevin O'Neill recommended Deane to MU.  Deane turned down the Dayton job to go to MU.   Dayton ended up hiring Oliver Purnell.  The year prior, Deane was set to take the Northwestern job, but turned it down at the 11th hour.

Raised Catholic.  No longer Catholic...started his own church when he played/coached in New Zealand.  Has two sisters, no brothers.  His uncle Jack lives in Point, his cousin is Nick who was on Crean's staff.

I've said this before and been admonished...I know TB.  He isn't coming.  UW is his dream job whether he ever gets it or not.  I'm an MU fan.  Would love to see it for real.  But not in my lifetime.
