You either have a coach or you don't.  There's nothing positive to be had by calling a press conference to say you're still looking - that's blog fodder at best.  If it takes another week, let Scoop be riled up for a week, but don't go out there and announce it.  It's not like there can be a Q&A.  The only positive thing that can happen is the coach is announced.

All Media,

Marquette Interim Vice President & Director of Athletics Bill Cords will be available at 2 p.m. CT on Thursday afternoon to provide an update on the search for a new head men's basketball coach.

This is NOT a press conference to announce a new head coach.

We live in a society that rewards mediocrity , I detest mediocrity - David Goggi

I want this quote to serve as a reminder to the vast majority of scoop posters in regards to the MU BB program.

So let me get this straight. MU moved up the announcement of its new president...so they could hold an "update" press conference???? This is classic.

is someone able to post the communication Cords sent out to the media?

I do not believe anyone.

That he has availability is a concern in itself, but this time would be better spent playing minesweeper than providing any sort of update.

Until MU releases them from their NLI.

MU has all the power here.

I would hope the school is maintaining regular contact with these guys during the process and reminding them they are valued, and that the program will remain strong etc...

Given hey have out the clamps on any communication, seemingly at all, I think this actually could make some sense. Control the message.

If they really don't announce a coach and rather are just providing our AD to field questions on the coaching search.  Well then I have even less confidence in our Administration making the right decision.  Gotta believe these guys are smarter than that...

If true I do not like this one bit.

There is no way this is positive, if true.  Most likely means they lost out on both top candidates. Best case if that is true is they are after someone still playing.

If it is "just an update on the search", then we are truly screwed.

Which is Archie Miller or Tony Bennett.  So even if the faintest of implications is given that this is the case, it will just make the firestorm circle around them, right before their games...that's how you hook em.

willie warrior

So, if we have not landed Shaka, then it is safe to say that he played MU. Time to move on.

They will either announce the new coach at the presser or will cancel it. It is a placeholder.

Jason King and Paint Touches (through a retweet of JK) mentioned Cuonzo Martin. If that's the case, can someone enlighten me on why he'd be chosen over Howland?

bean

They are just going to name Wainwright as the interim coach for next season as the search continues.

jesmu84

This is... not good. If the media announcement details are factual ("NOT" announcing a head coach), then, this can't be anything good. With Wake already open, and certainly other openings to come, MU shouldn't be dragging their feet. Hoping for greatness, expecting disappointment. Awesome.

Quite the impact hire...

Groin_pull

So, let me guess how this presser plays out tomorrow.

Reporter #1: Tell us, who's on your short list of candidates?

Cords: Can't say.

Reporter #2: How soon before you hire a new coach?

Cords: That's still up in the air.

Reporter #3: What happened on Monday?

Cords: Not sure.
