Someone still coaching?

That's the best case scenario.

Worst case- their top choices have turned them down and they're scrambling.

IF MU does something so stupid, and comes out and says we have a national search and "this is going to take time" and "we have no deadline, we'll make the right decision when it's time", this board will blow up.

Just sign Howland and get this train moving.

Stupid - you don't call a press release to discuss a "search" - WTF can they actually say other than "we are still looking"

This may be go down as yet another stupid PR bungle.

It's Marquette! It's Marquette!

Never underestimate the power of their PR-stupidity.

Seriously. Just when I think this school has set a new standard for clumsy PR moves...they outdo themselves.

Worst case scenario is panicking and just hiring Brian Wardle.

If the top candidates passed, I have no issues taking time to reevaluate.

I bet this is exactly what they are going to say.  What else could they say unless they announce a new coach.

Hey, let's all get outraged over the content of a press conference that hasn't happened yet!

They are announcing at 2PM tomorrow, the new coach....

only thing it could be.  The make it as an update now to throw press off the sent digging.  Nobody announces a coaching search press update ahead of time.

You don't accelerate the prez hiring announcement so you can have a presser the next date to update people that "the process is on-going and we're trying"

Keep the faith

They can't sign anywhere else until April 16 .... so, they'll wait until April 16.

They have no choice, because they will not be released until they talk to new coach.

Could someone please tell me how MU has blown this from a PR standpoint?  To the best of my knowledge, nothing has been said other than they reached out to Howland (and at this point I can't even remember if that was announced officially).

You cannot blame MU for a bunch of unconfirmed media speculation and the collective hysteria of people on message boards.

This is not Cords' first rodeo, if he's going to talk about something publically, it's going to be something of substance.

Until MU releases them from their NLI.

MU has all the power here.

Hey, let's all get outraged over the content of a press conference that hasn't happened yet!

No kidding.  The press conference may be set and to protect the integrity of communication between an incoming coach and about to be former players....especially in light of the clusterfrack of social media on Monday, they say it is to discuss the status of the search process.  Then, when all are ready (tomorrow), they proudly announce the status of the search process is closed and we are pleased to introduce the new head basketball coach at Marquette University....who may or may not be present depending on how tight the timeline is for closing loose ends at former program.   Chillax.

So, hopefully the word does not leak from UW Stout where we found our new coach (kidding of course)

Three-headed monster who will issue press statements in haiku form and most definitely not push for MU to become more like St. Louis.

I've seen Marquette's name involved in what has appeared to be a clusterf*ck so far, but I don't see the university being in any way responsible for any of that perception.

this appears to be:

1) Shaka fell through...
2) Either MU does not Howland or Howland does not want MU or cant come to terms
3) They need time for plan C which is something better than settling for Wardle

I'd be beyond stunned if MU called a press conference to publicly announce that they hadn't landed their top candidates.
I mean, who does that?
What in Bill Cords 20 years at Marquette convinces you he's that clueless?

Actually I think it was just one person who said "done deal" and everybody ran with it. Everyone else just repeated "done deal" and they all saw each others' tweets as verification

"To discuss the status"...  Doesn't mean the status is not, "so please meet our new coach,..."
