Our former coach said one reason for leaving was his unhappiness with TV deal....

Can our TV deal be worse than the deal that VCU/ A10 has?

Ask yourself this. Have you ever turned on CBS sports network?

He mentioned the TV deal as a bad thing. Which is weird.
What the hell difference would the TV deal make? If he's making $3 million, would he care if he's on local access? MKE the NCAA, make some noise every year or two and the recognition will come. TV deal stuff is nonsense...except for Buzz who's apparently desperate for attention and acceptance.

If Goodman is saying this, he is stating that having occasional games on ESPN is better than having every game on Fox Sports 1. His bias is showing, if you ask me.

ZiggysFryBoy

1)  Goodman moved from CBS to ESPN last year.  The vast mouse earred conspiracy includes trashing the BE and FS1 at any chance they get.

2)  Who knows if Goodman isn't Shaka's mouthpiece too?

3)  If not, Goodman is just throwing crap up like everyone else.

I think it's a huge deal in recruiting.  Kids want to play on ESPN.  They want their friends and family to be able to see them playing.  Even though Marquette is getting a lot of cash from FS1 (and that money provides a lot of good things for the program -- including, hopefully, a high profile coach), kids want to play on ESPN.

I thought we got a good tv deal???

The money is great.  Buzz's complaint had to do with game start times being scheduled for Fox's convenience.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

That's funny.  Isn't every sporting event scheduled for TV convenience?

VaTech was ESPN one time last year. ESPN2 zero times. ESPNU three times.
Yeah, that's way better than the Big East's setup.

starting5

Start times were no different on ESPN, only difference is Fox will delay a start so us fans at home can see the entire game.  So instead fo athe 8pm central start it would be 8:15.
Plus it was a trainwreck trying to find all the games on espn in prior years and if you did not have the sports package or cable did not offer MSG you were out of luck.
Every game for MU this year was on FS1, FOX or CBS sports network.  If you get espn in your home you get those channels.

The only angle that might work from the TV deal perspective is all the bashing the league took from the talking heads at espn and the limited amount of highlights on espn.  Get in the top 25 and you will get highlights on espn

The TV deal excuse is very poor

VCU had 9 games on ESPN/2/U this year, and every game televised to some extent (NBC Sports, CBS Sports, CSN).

He's not...and if he was he would be far more committed one way or another.

Bottom line, I think MU and Smart are talking and it's a back and forth affair.  I think by the end of the day we'll know something...probably not an announcement but a leak(major) one way or the other.

So, Buzz was out of here in a flash and took everything but the kitchen sink and the lightbulbs? Do we have to pay
him anything? Seems like he kind of gave up to me this year. One hell of a crazy business!

"The TV deal excuse is very poor"

Which was my whole point in questioning what Goodman is saying...why would Smart say this when it's far better than anything his VCU team has from either a money or exposure perspective?

Only to watch a Marquette game.

Amen... and amen!  Love you Homer & Jim M., but you have to find another employer as all my efforts are going into making FS1 a success just to grind on ESPN.

P.S. Any other radio station would also likely provide a better signal. ; )

Unfortunately, not true.  CBS Sports network is not included in my plan.  I should probably pay the additional $15/month to get it, but haven't.  But I can't blame anyone else for the fact that I'm (relatively) cheap.

Not trying to rile up the herd, but this is what Jerry Meyer had been hearing. I remember yesterday he reported that the assistants at VCU believed that there was some back and forth negotiating going on.  I mean, we all said we'd hear something Wednesday. It just sucks that there are days we have to get through to get there.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Not even offered by my cable company.
