either directly or indirectly besides Howland?

I don't know specifically, but a big time coach at a big time university!  How's that for specifics? But who would it be?

CO, would you crap your trousers if it were Mike Brey?

No we don't need any stinking ND coaches.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

Actually no, he is a great bench coach.

MU has formally contacted Howland, no offer yet.

Howland is not currently employed so he can be formally contacted.

You cannot directly contact a coach with a contract as part of that coach's contract says he cannot discuss other jobs.  So you do it back channel, call his agent, that is one of the reasons they have them.  Or, his agent calls your AD and says his client is interested in your opening.

So the only names we will ever know that were directly contacted are the unemployed like Howland.  Coaches that are employed we will never know as it all second hand anyway.

The only big time coach at a big time university that I could think of that we consider a move would be Bennett.  Wisconsin ties.  He would be considered big time and Virginia is a big time university.

4everwarriors

Doubt Tony would consider MU since there was and probably still is some bitterness in not offerin' his father, who was at UW-Green Bay, after KO bolted.

That might be true but I can't figure out who else would fit the parameters of being a current big time coach at a big time university and that is willing to come to MU.  I keep thinking of coaches who are looking to get out of the hot seat of their current position.  I don't want an Oliver Purnell type that had some success but sees the writing on the wall that its never going to get that good again.  That is why I mentioned Tony Bennett.

The caveat is, this coach contacted MU with interest. That is why I wonder if Brey or Matta are happy at football schools?

Tums Festival

I doubt Bennett would have any interest since he turned us down when TC left and is now in a better job.

I don't see Matta leaving Ohio state.  I have mixed emotions on Brey.  Not that he is a domer but that I never really liked his teams and his post season success have been minimal at best.

Bingo...if he wanted the MU job...the time to do it would have been leaving Washington State...he now has a Number 1 seeded team at Virginia and knows he can get it done there...why leave?

Why would either of those guys leave?

Maybe at that point in time he wasn't ready to come home just yet and now he is ready.   You never know.  Some leave their home and never come back.  Some leave and come back quickly and some leave and after a decent time away eventually come back home.

I doubt the validity of the rumor so I am not holding out hope, just saying he fits the description better than most.

I guess you have to look at what makes MU look attractive?  IMHO, MU has a great tradition and basketball is king.  Who would like that situation?  Maybe someone who is tired playing second fiddle to football?

Thad thinks he can win an NC in his seat and he's right.  He will never move unless "encouraged" and that is not happening.

ND is happy with Brey as he keeps them interested during the FB off-season.  That is all they want and he delivers.  Why would he leave?

Neither of these are going to happen.  Next idea

First, strange things happen.  Not many saw Buzz leaving to go to VaTech.  Second, you may be correct, than you tell me of a current major college coach at a major conference that might view the MU job as appealing?
