How the hell did you know this? That has to be one of the most obscure nuggets...

I tried to play the word in Words with Friends  (scrabble like app) and it wouldn't work.  So then I went to Google and put in "Jew scrabble" and found the story.  "J" and "W" are big letter scores and I don't like losing.   ;D

I can imagine you got some other interesting results by Googling "Jew Scrabble".....
Have some patience, FFS.

November 10 and January 26 - Vander Blue v David Cubillan

Have a link to the full schedule?  Going to Israel in April, I suppose there's a less than 1% chance I would get lost and step into a gym.

Could using the word "quone" also be considered "Jew scrabble?"

Any polls out there to indicate that the by definition offensive "jew someone down" isn't really offensive? Don't know if you missed it but Charles Krauthammer recently came down on the side of the "words have meanings" crowd in the redskin debate. Guess he's just another PC, grievance peddling, lefty wingnut. LOL

I don't know, feel free to check if there is a poll....I just find it odd that the word is not in Scrabble.  Jesus was a Jew.  It's a word.

I did notice Charles said to just call them the SKINS, and drop the red.  His opinion. Personally, I think they should do exactly what I recommended Marquette do.  Change the logo.  MU keep the Warriors, change the logo.   The Redskins should keep the name and change the logo....the logo can be the redskin potatoes.  Problem solved.

Chico, did not earlier have a chance to read the blog sent, very interesting.  Thanks.  Of course, goy, is a yiddish term for non-jew

This year, Vander will hear from the sidelines, "You're my Goy Blue!"

Christian is a "word," too, as are Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu.

None are allowed in Scrabble because each is a proper noun.

You can't use Charles or Missouri or Brazil or Jupiter or, for that matter, Jesus, either.

It's a rule. Every game has to have rules. The creators of Scrabble and those who have followed in the rules department decided to make that a rule. No proper nouns.

It's like saying, "You should be allowed to score a basket by shooting from under the hoop, having it go up through the bottom of the rim and then back down into the basket." No you shouldn't. Why? Because it's a rule. Why? Because it is.

Not a difficult concept here.

There is also a colloquial and offensive (by definition) use of the word jew -to jew someone down, as in getting him to lower a price. Scrabble has decided not to allow the word which evidently bothers Chico. I don't think they allow the n word either, which likely offends him also.

I think you missed the link I had earlier.  Originally, the word was allowed in Scrabble.   It was removed after a protest started by Judith Grad, an art gallery owner in 1978.  Her protests were originally denied.  Took almost 20 years.

In 1996, the word was removed from the game along with over 100 other words.

I appreciate Lenny and Guns talking of logic......that doesn't explain the word was part of the game, proper noun or no proper noun.  It was removed in the third edition of the game in 1996 due to a protest.   Not that hard...and yes, rules are rules and the original rules ALLOWED THE WORD.

Scrabble players were pissed. In addition to Jew being removed, so was Honky, blowjob, pissed, fart, peed, papist, etc.  Another word was removed....Jesuit.   I'm not making this up.  Players in tournaments threatened boycotts so the president of the National Scrabble Association sought a compromise.  There was the official list for the recreational players and there would be the expanded non PC list that could be used for tournaments, etc.

Let me google that for you..... http://lmgtfy.com/?q=definition+of+jew

Jew
jo͞o/
noun
noun: Jew; plural noun: Jews

    1. a member of the people and cultural community whose traditional religion is Judaism and who trace their origins through the ancient Hebrew people of Israel to Abraham.

Let me use it in a sentence.   As Vander Blue took the court, he was cheered on by many Arabs and Jews in attendance for his first game in the Israeli Basketball League.  A peace accord was in site, all thanks to Vander Blue.

Did you even follow the link you created?  Because the definition of "jew" that it brought up was the following...the first of which is a proper noun and therefore ineligible to be used in Scrabble, the second of which is "offensive."  So I think you just proved my point.

noun: Jew; plural noun: Jews
1. a member of the people and cultural community whose traditional religion is Judaism and who trace their origins through the ancient Hebrew people of Israel to Abraham.

verb offensive
1. bargain with someone in a miserly or petty way.
