ODB's was the most painful and in deference to Todd Townsend, ODB probably had the highest WAR (Wins Above Replacement) of any transfer.

Here is another way to look at that question.  Which transfer was best for Marquette basketball?  In other words, which not-so-great player transferred out and freed up a schollie for a much better player?
Have some patience, FFS.

I had forgotten about Mason. (How could I? He hit the GW over Loserville!)
But he didn't do too well at LSU. Look at his dismal senior year. 7 games!

Part of this is because he had a viral infection in the muscles around the heart. Tough way to end a career.

I am not sure what "WAR is, but it may be impossible to calculate. The first year after ODB we were 27-6 and there is no way to determine what our record would have been if ODB had stayed. It is easy to assume we would have been better, but that is not an actual fact. For example we beat Missouri in overtime, because Novak drilled some timely threes. Had ODB stayed he may of been in the game at that time and we would of nver gotten to overtime. Of course you can argue that with ODB we would not of needed novak's three's to win, but everything would of changed if ODB stayed.

Dameon Mason had *edit - it appears he was declared academicly ineligible at LSU*  He was supposed to be pretty good and seemed to have the talent.

Ryan Amoroso also had some success after leaving MU... perhaps not an outstanding college career, but he still plays professionally overseas.

Still one of the better games I've ever been to

Who the hell was Marshall Williams?  Never see anything posted about him as a TT guy, let alone playing.

Carlton Christian.  Seemed like he had an upside that could have been realized a few years down the road.

Hazel had a couple good years after MU.

Damian Saunders in the Duquesne Run-and-gun offense.

Matt Mortensen.  Could have started a luge team:

Damian Saunders was not a transfer.  He was dropped after a drug offense his senior year of HS which conveniently bailed Crean out of a oversigning situation.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

He transferred out, willingly or not.

He never showed up at MU -- so he was never technically a transfer.

Old Fart to remember...

The last two Marquette football players to appear in the NFL were Minnesota Viking safety Karl Kassulke, who transferred to Drake University after Marquette dropped football and who entered the NFL in 1963, and Dallas Cowboy defensive lineman, George Andrie, who remained at Marquette for his senior year after the school dropped football and was then drafted by the Cowboys.  Both Kassulke and Andrie appeared in the Pro Bowl during their careers—Andrie did so on five occasions–and both appeared in the Super Bowl, albeit on the losing side.  Both players retired after the 1972 season.

Joe Nethen to Slippery Rock I think (but ended up returning as a student).

Think Andrie actually scored a defensive TD in the Super Bowl.

Heck, he's probably nowhere near the best FB transfer: Frank Aschenbrenner, 1947 Rose Bowl MVP.
