I never got the meaning of that saying.

Applied to big men, it would mean that having one solid player committed would be better than having two solid big men considering MU. Better to actually have something tangible than the mere possibility of something better.

Back in the day there used to be bushes, now there's a lot more goin' to hardwood flooring.

True.  Hardwood is easier to keep clean and doesn't smell as bad. It does get very slippery when wet however.

Spare bedrooms at cribs in my hood are goin' for $250+/night.

They can charge whatever they want, but they better get it up front.  I wouldn't want to step in front of a big, bearded, ornery cuss dressed in leather and blue jeans on the way to his Harley.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I guess at this point, they'll be lucky to find a room at the No-Tell Motel in Cudahy.

I love how we get all worried about stuff like this.  I'm sure Buzz and Co. have it figured out.  (I wouldn't doubt that MU has rooms set aside somewhere for all sorts of campus visitors.)
I suspect Buzz knows every year that this is the time of year players are going to visit and that hotel rooms are reserved in January, if not sooner. Buzz not only is going make sure he has the best hotel, but he will know exactly which floor and rooms he wants. I also expect he knows which parents would think Harley Fest is cool and which would not. You bring in a recruit and parents that are intersted in Harley's for Harley Fest and if you are recruiting an recruit with Irish heritage you bring them in during Irish fest. I doubt that much of anything outside of weather is left to chance.

Big Ben Blammers looks like a solid get.

Sexy? No. But neither was the Big Sexy Ox.

Assuming status quo, McKay-STjr-Juan-Deonte-MHarris......there would not be a huge burden on this kid right away, particularly offensively.   Big body, decent footwork, instincts, court sense.....nothing not to like.     Would be a really nice addition to an already solid class.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

I'd love to see him here.  Tremendous upside based on the clips I saw.  Footwork and mobility looked great, coaching can do the rest.

Juan is a switchable.   Care to predict how many different positions he guards in the coming year?   I will say all 5.    I also predict he will play all 3 of the switchable wing positions on offense.

I predict three, you can leave out the 1 and the 5 (and most of the time the 4), at least by design.  Everyone can get caught unintentionally in bad matchup due to switch offs, but Buzz won't start Juan out guarding the one or the five, and the practice of having Juan guard the four will be cut way back this coming year, if Buzz is to be believed, bitch.*

Yet, last year he spent much of his time on defense covering the other team's 4.
Yes he did.  Out of his natural position.

I can remember Butler coving the point guard, so I could see Juan getting that assignment. He has the length and energy to do it. Of course this would be an indication that Duane Wilson cannot guard the other team's point.

Is that what we did for Jameel McKay?

Butler became one of those very rare guys who can guard little (Tu Holloway), medium (Brooks) or big (Lebron) guys who attack the basket. Loooong way to go before Juan gets there, but he does have some of Jimmy's physical attributes.

I was thinking if he did, it would be against point guards bigger than Duane Wilson not a smaller quick point guard.

ESPN's Dave Telep did an article on late-rising guys that are looking to crack the top 100. Here's what he wrote about Lammers:

"As a high schooler, Philip Jurick was a late top 100 player, and Lammers is cut from the same cloth without the off-the-court baggage. Smart kid, legit size and could be a multiyear starter for teams that prefer to go big."

Recent comparisons I've heard include Raef LaFrentz and Jeff Withey. Lammers visits Marquette this weekend. Really hoping Buzz can wrap him up fast and prevent any need for other visits. This kid could well be the McGary, Embiid, or Turner that doesn't get away.

I wouldn't go THAT high, they're all 5*, but he's exactly what I want - a late rising big.  I'd say more overlooked like Gardner (not in terms of style of play).

I think Lammers will continue to progress and his stock will rise quite a bit, but those other 3 seem to be more freak athletes who finally start to figure out how to play basketball as opposed to what Lammers seems to be in that he is a big boy who has some skills that are now being noticed.  I highly doubt Lammers will come in and dominate as a freshman to the point where it's a serious possibility that he could leave after 1 year as a lottery pick like those guys seem to be/are.  Lammers seems more like he will start as a role player and turn into a really strong contributor as he progresses through 4 years of college.  I would put money on him not being a 5* 1 and done type player.  Just different player than those 3.

Honest question. Why not? McGary was outside the top-100 when Buzz got in on him. Embiid was just getting noticed but was still outside the top-50. Turner was a virtual unknown as recently as March of this year.

One thing Buzz has done as well as anyone in the country in the past 3-4 years is identify superstar big men before they blew up nationally. In one case (Gardner) the guy never blew up at the AAU level and Buzz landed him. In the other 3 cases, they because household names before Buzz could land them. So why couldn't Lammers be the next one? Miami and Missouri both sniffing around as well as other high majors. This kid has gone from 2 star to 4 star status in a few months. Is it really unthinkable that now that Lammers is getting some attention he couldn't be a top-50 or even top-25 guy when the final rankings come out as scouts compare him to a pair of Kansas guys that are now cutting NBA paychecks?

Because those guys were considered 5* before their senior year and Lammers is not at 4* status yet.  I said nothing about his actual college/pro potential, I'm merely saying that his situation is potentially more like Gardner's (overlooked all the way through to day 1 on campus) than the other 3 you mentioned (from virtually nothing to 5* before their senior year with offers from blue bloods hangin' out the anus complete with 1 & done hype).

I want Lammers on the squad and am not questioning Buzz' ability to spot under the radar talent.
