AAC will be ahead of the ACC in alpha listings...... :D

ChitownSpaceForRent

So pretty much another way of saying Conference USA.

chapman

Smart move putting "Athletic" in the name.  When you've got Memphis, UCF, and ECU in the conference you want to make that very clear that the only association is athletics...I guess option 1B was the American Non-Academic Conference.

Groin_pull

I don't hate it. Wish that had been our conference name back in the C-USA days.

Just think how happy Louisville fans will be with an American Athletic Conference title banner in their rafters after next year.

Now when the schools' representatives meet they have to call it an "AA meeting"

Cant happen as louisville is going to be in the ACC next season

GGGG

Not like they had a lot of good choices.  It'll be fine.

Did I miss something about Louisville joining the ACC next season or is it still 2014-15 season?

I'm pretty sure they can't enter until Maryland leaves after next year, so they have to spend a year in this conference. Cuse, ND and Pitt are gone next year. Not a terrible conference as they should have 3-5 tourney teams (Louisville, Memphis, Cincy, UConn?) but nothing special.

Louisville needs a football conference.  Next year's ACC football schedule was set (and I believe tickets have already been sold) so they could not move and still have a football schedule.  So, they were stuck for another year in the AAC before moving to the ACC.

ND will not be a ACC football member.  So, they don't need a football conference to complete their schedule like Louisville.  This allowed them to get out early.

Adding Lousville next season would've given the ACC an odd number of football schools, so yes they can't officially join until Maryland leaves a spot open for them.

Death on call

As the "American Athletic" composition has often been considered the de facto re-birth of C-USA, perhaps I shouldn't be so taken aback.  However...

"The American Athletic Conference will be the third Division I conference with a variation of America or American in its name. The others: America East and Mid-American. There's also Conference USA, which, ironically, is the league where nine of the 12 teams in the American Athletic Conference came from."

I never realized that NINE of TWELVE were Conference USA members.  I guess I just never counted and assumed it was about half.  Calling this a "new" conference is completely overstating it.

It's only fitting for this league that when read phonetically, its new name sounds like a dying, last gasp for breath.

If you count Boston College and Miami, then seven ACC schools came from the Big East (once all the known reshuffling is done).

CUSA is becoming the AAC
The old Big East is becoming the ACC

It's the circle of life, not to be confused with a circle jerk.
