"The "America 12 Conference" is the favorite to become the new name of the current Big East Conference's football schools, league sources told ESPN."
The Flutie Effect: "A significant and positive correlation between a university having a successful team and higher quality of incoming freshmen, alumni donations, and graduation rates."

I was down on that name a few minutes ago, but after thinking about it, I guess it's not too horrible. Not sure what else they can do for a conference with teams spread out all over the country.

MileHigh

Interesting...good choice I guess as they are spread geographically apart.  I wonder how UCONN feels about it considering they are in the America East Conference backyard.

The Process

I wonder what slogans we're going to have:

"The America 12:  We've Already Got Plans for When Cincy and UCONN Bolt."

"The America 12: Drifting Towards Mid-Major Status since 2013."

"The America 12: Is That an Iceberg Dead Ahead?"

"The America 12: At Least We're Not Dayton."
Relax. Respect the Process.

Groin_pull

My guess is, they'll wait until the Big 10 steals UNC and Georgia Tech...then beg to join what's left of the ACC.

MUCrew

Sounds like CUSA 2.0 to me.  Not teal.

Haha I was thinking exact same thing. Litteraly CUSA 2.0

Groin_pull

They have a few good basketball teams (UConn, Memphis, Cincy)...but their football teams are horrible. Just heard that Tulsa may soon be invited. Just another random school thrown into the mix.

I'm so glad that MU got into a lifeboat before the ship sank.

Pakuni

Don't be too harsh.
There but by the grace of God goes Marquette.

Honestly, I don't like the name, but after looking at a list of collegiate conferences, I am not sure what they can do.  Most of these are named for geographical location and they simply don't have anything that fits.

That's not an automatic ticket to the Big 10. It takes a successful football team and a desirable media market.

If the B10s goal is to get more $$ from the BTN in the NYC area, having both Rutgers and UConn can't hurt.

And you could argue that UConns football team has been more successful recently than either Rutgers or Maryland.

MUCrew

This is why reestablishing and rebranding a conference would be difficult.  So happy that "Big East" brand was taken with us.

I've got a buck to throw in the hat for america12.xxx.  Who's with me?

That's about 5 'honestly' uses today Sultan. We will just assume from this point forward that you are being honest. No need to preface any statement with 'honestly.'

C'mon, I'm talking about future additions. Indiana joined the Big 10 in 1899....long before "cable TV footprint" was a consideration.

Honestly, wasn't this a point you could have addressed in a PM?  Honestly, I don't think the whole board needs to read this.

Freeport Warrior

So happy to be on this side of the equation. Almost like a spring Thanksgiving.

Got me thinking, who would be the top 3 people who put us in this position? Cords? Wild? Crean? Wade? Buzz? Cottingham? Larry Williams? Excuse me, but I don't recall how we came to the Big East timing-wise. Did we know we were going Big East when we went to the Final Four (or even have an inkling) or did this propel us into the conversation. Then I think about something like the Robert Jackson transfer and how it totally changed that team. If he doesn't transfer and Merritt is our center, would we be here today? I know that once we made that final four, fundraising changed forever, we were back on the map and things really started to happen. How many Amigos come without the FF and so on and so on. Almost feel sorry for America 12, but not really.

Not to mention that IU is pretty much followed by the entire state just as UW sports are followed by a few people who live outside of Madison.
