Crean is a douche, this is not a stunning development.  Many coaches are douches, unfortunately.

In my personal opinion, I think he has father issues.  His father left his family when he was young, I'm sure that tainted the young lad.  Told you can't succeed, you're not good enough, etc.  You end up getting a chip on your shoulder trying to over compensate.  With the coaches I've dealt with, they will almost universally say they hate the press and many fans (KO anyone) because everyone is an expert and they can't wait to second guess you and tell you why you are wrong.  They constantly have to defend themselves, their approach, their decisions, etc.  They snap as a result.  Seen it many times, especially after a loss or a game in which they underperformed.

It is what it is.  Generally, I like how Buzz handles the media, he's also still young in the game having only been doing this 6 or 7 years.  TC has been at it for about 15.  The longer you do it, the crankier you get with the media, fans, etc.

Some actually learn early on to bend over backwards for the media and to use the media. These gentlemen end up getting the benefit of the doubt. Bill Self comes to mind. Pete Carroll. Ozzie Guillen. Lon Kruger. Jim Riggleman. Doc Rivers. Bruce Weber. Lou Piniella. Tony Dungy. Terry Francona. Pretty much every NHL coach. Joe Torre. The list goes on.

Some pretty successful guys. Sure, they could get their hackles up every once in a while, but they usually kept it together. They let the media know they were in charge but they rarely went on the offensive. They certainly didn't interrupt another reporter's question just to try to bully a reporter they didn't like.

What a crock!  "Crean is a douche" because he has "father issues"?  I suppose the way he left Marquette is directly related to how his father left him?  All that sideline clapping is to make up for all the times his absent father did not clap for him?  He doesn't make halftime adjustments because no one bought him cotton candy at intermission at the circus?

Seriously?

My wife grew up in the 80's in Indiana loving IU basketball and especially Steve Alford and his perfect hair.    She still watches as many Hoosier games as she can.    I enjoy basketball in general and she knows that if they are on at the same time that we are watching MU and she has to DVR IU, so it all works out.    I was at work on Sunday while she watched the IU/Northwestern game at home by herself.   I asked her tonight at dinner if she was planning on watching IU/Penn St and she launched into the following rant.

"I like Tom Crean, I think he is a good coach, but when he was at Marquette, did no one ever play a 1-3-1 zone against him?   Geezus, during the Northwestern game, they threw that defense on and for 5 minutes it looked like Inidana had never seen a zone before!   I mean, they eventually figured it out, but c'mon!  It's just a friggin zone!"

I belly laughed for a couple of minutes and thanked her for reminding me why I love her.    I then explained by perspective on Crean.    And then she said the words that husbands so rarely hear......"You might be right."
