All the sudden it seems like Georgetown is getting cold feet.  They are the cornerstone to this whole thing, they bring the cache, they bring a lot of money, they bring prestige.  I am starting to feel like this is not going to happen like we all think this will happen.

Maybe this will be Hiroshima?

Oh, I thought you were going to say; "Me starting a new thread."
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I don't think it would have gotten this far in the media without G'Town okaying it. I think they are all just determining the best way to break it off (leave, dissolve the league, keep the Big East name, etc...).

Der.... Georgetown is not getting cold feet.  There is no definite exit plan in place... options are being discussed.  Georgetown has been the only one to say publicly that they're yet unsure as to how this is going to play out.  If anyone bothered to ask the same question of the other six, they'd say the same thing, but  no one has, so some bloggers have misconstrued that to mean Georgetown is having cold feet.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

The longer this takes, the better I feel. Does that seem contradictory? I'm concerned that if we rush things, we won't do it right. We'll take schools that we know will say yes and in the process might leave money on the table that should be ours. Save an announcement until Monday. This is good news, put it at the front of the week's news cycle, not the back. Or save it even longer, like until the first week of March. Then when more eyes are on college basketball than any other time of the year, the entire country will be talking about our new non-football super-conference.

cachet.

and no.

What's with this board using that word all of a sudden? I could go years and probably never hear it again. It's like the guy who gets the word of the day and uses it all day to impress his friends but it just stands out as weird.

It's a word infrequently used but in this case is incredibly relevant and sums up many things at once. The problem is the Big East hasn't added anyone of true quality in awhile. Everyone they went for had some fatal flaw. Whether it's Temple and Memphis having awful football, SMU and Houston having awful basketball, or Tulane simply having nothing but ugly babies, we were bringing in schools that didn't up the profile of the league, they simply filled vacant seats.

Now we are actively out looking for schools that bring name recognition, quality, and prestige. Rather than typing all those words every time, one word will suit. Personally, I think it's nice being able to say that some of our targets have cachet, because ever since the 2005 C-USA raid, schools that can be described like that simply haven't been on the Big East radar.

This.

Too bad Jack the dog (and ex-official Hoya mascot) isn't still alive so he can look at the GU president with sad eyes.
Have some patience, FFS.

No worries.  Georgetown may be making one last call to the ACC but it isn't happening.  It's just difficult for them as a charter member.  And Fr. P has a great deal of influence almost certainly.  Also expect Providence leadership to re-explain 1979.

Except, perhaps, for some football only members.

Georgetown is a must for this conference IMO. They are the wild card and we need to make sure they part of this long term.

I really only pointed it out because there was an entire thread dedicated to the difference between cache and cachet. I guess I'm a hater too.

True. Boise State would fit that mold. Odds on them ever playing in this conference now?

It wasn't pointed at you but KW for using it. I did find it funny, like you, that he used it wrong after a whole thread on the spelling.

I'm sorry... but it wouldn't have got to this point if Georgetown wasn't on board.  Georgetown is not going to turn their backs on the other six at this point because the ACC is going to give them a better deal.  The C7 movement is philosophical, not financial.  There's nothing that the ACC has to offer in that regard.

Unless the ACC is taking the C7, GU is not going to the ACC.  No way.  No how.

Granted, DeGioia is the only sectarian president in the C7 (I think)... there's no way he's going to pull a Bielema on a bunch of collars.  They might excommunicate him.

Ever since the football powers started this conference arms race, the ultimate endgame for the MU's of the world has been a basketball-only conference.    This insane game of musical chairs leaves no other conclusion.   The C7 have finally made official what many here have been hoping for and predicting for the last couple of years.    BUT THIS SH^% AIN'T GONNA GET DONE IN A DAY!!!!!     This is a big, bold step and it is going to take time.    There are going to be pauses, stumbles, and glitches.   It's not gonna be easy and it's not gonna be pretty.      Right now, kenosha, you are watching the sausage get made.      Relax.
