The Conference Without the Football.

Or shortened, Conference WTF.
Have some patience, FFS.

If the beast isn't happening, might as well just call it "The League." Said like "tOSU." If the NBA is the association, we are the league.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Regardless of whether we pull Butler into this new conference, I think we need to avoid names regarding Catholicism.  Yes, I know we are the C7, but I am curious if there is a legal implication if we did become some Catholic Conference and Butler was not invited.  Or if another school that isn't Catholic tries to get in.  Is there a potential discrimination lawsuit?  Deny non-Catholics?

Plus I don't think a media market in this society would be willing to sign an agreement/deal with a Catholic focused conference.  I don't think it is a good branding technique.

Debate away...playing Devil's Advocate.

I agree....and you didn't even mention the inevitability of the child-molesting-priest crack as opposing fans' go-to insult.

Someone else said "The Rock". I think that's good for many reasons. First of all, it demonstrates that basketball is the priority. It also is a new brand that sounds both solid and long lasting. Finally, for the Christian/Catholic schools, there's the religious significance (Upon this rock...).

Alternately, it could be "The ROC" if anyone can figure out what the R and O stand for. The Roundball Obliteration Conference?

Not bad, but this guy may an issue with that:

Is there any chance we can affiliate this league with Jordan Brand?  I mean... telling a kid he can play in the Jordan League would be great.

No offense that sounds awful.  Maybe we should change our nickname to the Marquette Golden Shopko's while we are at it.

Marquette Pick'N'Savers would make more sense, no?  Or the Marquette Dick Strongs!

Not so sure that five years from now, the Jordan brand will be all that valuable.  As time goes on, more and more unflattering information comes out about him.  Michael Jordan did an amazing job of managing his image while he was playing.  Now...not so much.

And I vote for the Marquette Harleys.

Have some patience, FFS.

I don't know what you're talking about...the man is an icon in the sport and I honestly don't think he reputation will ever be tarnished.

I vote for the "Armstrong Conference."

Shouldn't your comment be in teal?

For one thing, the evidence continues to mount that his "retirement" to play baseball was, in actuality, a suspension for gambling on sports.

And his reputation for being the consummate family man....hmmm...

I don't do teal.  I thought the "Armstrong" reference would give me away.

The right name is key to establishing Marquette's new home as one of the premier athletic conferences in the country. It should convey something about what the conference stands for — while also being concise, easy to remember and distinctive.

Here are some initial naming directions, grouped roughly according to their common focus. Potential nicknames and/or abbreviations follow in parentheses.

East (broad regional description, reference to Big East heritage)
All-East Conference (All East, AEC)
Eastern 10 Conference (East 10, E-10)
Eastern Athletic Conference (EAC, probably too close to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference)
Eastern Metro Conference (EMC)

North (more accurate regional description)
America North Conference (ANC)
Big North Conference (Big North, BNC)
Northern 10 Conference (Northern 10, North-10)
Northern Athletic Conference (NAC)
Northern Collegiate Conference (NCC)
Northern League Conference (NLC)

Metro (focus on urban colleges)
All-Metro Conference (All-Metro, AMC)
Big City Conference (Big City, BCC)
Capital 10 Conference (Capital 10, Cap-10)
Capital League Conference (Capital League, Cap League, CLC)
City 10 Conference (City 10, C10)
City Athletic Conference (CAC)
City Collegiate Conference (CCC)
Metro 10 Conference (Metro 10, Met 10, M10)
Metro American Conference (MAC)
Metro League Conference (Metro League, MLC)
New Metro Conference (NMC)

National (indicating expanded scope of conference)
All American Conference (AAC)
American Athletic Conference (AAC)
National 10 Conference (National 10, Nat-10)
National Athletic Conference (NAC)
National Collegiate Conference (NCC)
National Metro Conference (NMC)
New American Conference (NAC)

Of these, my top 3 conference name candidates are:

1. Capital 10 Conference (simple, unique, association with excellence, elite status)
2. All-American Conference (beyond regional focus, speaks to quality/elite status)
3. Big North (connection to well-known conferences such as Big 10, Big East, Big 12, Big West)

First post, BTW. Have at it.
