Happy for him, Mayo being out might be just what he needs. Disappointed with Vander however.

Dramatic improvement.  He was a chicken with his head cut off last year.  Really active on the boards and confident in his scoring plays.  So much for writing him off.

I don't know who wrote it, but the Fulce comparison is apt.    6-7, does a little of everything, energy.    At least for this game.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

Really impressed with Juan tonight, think this might be a breakout year for him. I think Juan and Derrick Wilson are most improved from last year. Lockett will be huge this year for us and Jake Thomas with big minutes and a very good game. This is going to be a fun season to watch.

Vander needs to get himself in check. Disappointed with him tonight.

Lennys Tap

Fulce was automatic on the 10-15 ft baseline jumper and an outstanding free throw shooter. Juan made a nice 3 today but isn't a proven shooter from any spot on the floor. His athleticism and energy are off the charts, though, and just what a healthy Fulce would have provided.

Crazy that a couple of players would make a lot of progress from their Freshman year to their Sophomore.   Who'd a thunk?

I didn't see that much improvement between frosh and soph years from other players. Erik Williams comes to mind. Juan and Derrick both looked like different guys out there tonight. Much more confidence, making plays they would not have last year. Juan did look like a chicken with his head cut off last year, he was really good tonight. I cringed when Derrick was in last season, he looked like a very capable back up to Junior tonight. Looking forward to seeing them both develop this year.

I don't think Erik Williams ever went for 9 & 9...  nice lil' game for JuanA

Got kind of worried when Juan when to the bench and started grabbing his shoulder.

I was, too. Glad to see him come back after that. The kid had tons of heart last year, happy to see his game catching up to that. Game one, so taking with a grain of salt, but promising for the season.

Honestly, it had to be really scary for him.  Feels something rip in the shoulder he has injured twice and had surgery on once.  Glad to see he was ok.

Juan is a tough kid...loved his energy. Buzz said after that it is Juan's job to not find a reason for Buzz to take him out of the game.

I am glad to see that he put on some weight in the off-season.
Have some patience, FFS.

Good comparison except Anderson has more upside than Fulce, Fulce used every ounce of talent he had and Juan hasn't scratched the surface yet.

More lacking in health than lacking in talent for Fulce.  He played with completely shot knees.

I'm sorry, but that is completely off base. To say that Joe Fulce "used every ounce if talent he had" is just plain stupid. Fulce , not JFB was the player we were excited about recruiting, he was an athletic freak with a good shot and unreal energy. Had he not gotten injured he would have been a completely different player at MU.

Totally disagee.  Fulce should have been a really good get (more highly touted than Butler) and was an athletic freak.

His body just couldn't hold together for him.

Don't get me wrong, I love Juan.  But Fulce had a ton of upside until his knees were wrecked.

+1

Members of the coaching staff were quick to point out that Fulce was by far the most athletic guy at Marquette when he was here. If not for injuries, I think he could have been our best player as a junior and senior.

True, but thats the point. fulce played to the best of his ability given the injuries and had no more to give, Juan can still get better.

So you think Fulce didn't give every ounce of talent he had? I do, he played his ass off, but was limited by the injuries. Thats not a rip on Fulce, the injuries happened and it sucked.  Anderson still has upside, thats the point. Fulce had the injuries, you can't live in a bubble and say he could have done this or that if,  Im sorry, that is plain stupid.

Then you are using upside incorrectly.

I don't know why everyone is getting their panties in a bunch. I never meant to imply Fulce wasn't talented. After his injuries he had little or no upside left. He was playing as good as he was going to get.

Barring injuries, (god forbid,) Anderson is going to get better, I beleive he has just scracthed the surface on how good he can be. Hence, he still has upside, room to get better, whereas Fulce, post injuries was not going to get better than what he put out. It isn't that hard to figure out.

makes sense.

Juan played with a purpose yesterday and has really started to grasp what Buzz wants from him. I'm convinced he'll contribute at the #3 off the bench.
