I'm assuming the guys were upperclassmen that have taken the lead for the section. I'd rather have a well-organized, passionate section even with a few borrowed chants (like We Believe) than a student section that has no impact on the game and seems little more into it than the upper bowl.

They had control of the PA system about 45 minutes before tip-off and explained to all the students how things were going to go. Excellent primer for freshmen, but probably good for the seniors as well. If the free throw disparity between the first and second half keeps up at half that rate, they can do whatever they want.

They went through it with the crowd/students at Marquette Madness. I like the concept, but it might be better if they did the same thing but with a different chant specific to MU.

That's true. I should clarify my comment above. I think the chant at the beginning is far better than nothing as it is. It's fun for the crowd and brings an energy to start the game. I'm all for doing it, I just think a chant specific to MU using the same format would be cool. I just don't have any suggestions yet on what that would be, but I'm sure the Fanatic leaders could come up with something good.

Nice to see our level of discourse is quickly reduced to name-calling. Not sure what I said in my post to merit this, so I'll just attribute your vitriol to lingering feelings of anger following Bama's loss.

I believe I gave quite a bit of detail in my first post.  And you posting an idiotic post and calling it "discourse" is quite funny.  How is this even a discussion when the actual player who this is supposedly affecting says he enjoys it?

Which is a perfectly fine idea. But for now, this is a hell of an improvement over last year. Considering all the criticism in recent years, I'd think this organization and these attempts at livening things up would be seen as a positive. It's a vast improvement, MU-specific chants would be an even bigger improvement, but walk before you run.

(Aside) During the "we believe" chant, I turned to my wife and said "Utah State."  She nodded and asked "do you think Wild Bill is next?"  In looking at some of the luchadores in the front row, I thought there might be a chance.... although we have many qualified candidates as far as physique & willingness go, the problem is you can't get centered well enough underneath the hoop at the BC to be conspicuous.

If ever there was a reason to building a basketball-only arena on MU's campus...

I agree completely that is a pathetic chant. Leave it for the Mo's in Utah. They probably disapprove of my drinkin', carousin', cursin', womanizin', and generally debauched lifestyle so let me look down on their lame ass chant. I like getting a knobber while swilling ale and watching Monday Night Football. They like green jello. To each their own.

Not from WI. Nor Chicago. I actually lived in Park City for awhile, an oasis of normalcy in a sea of LDS lunacy. Being too close to the fire made me uncomfortable so I moved to another mountain town. Lots of Mo's here, too, but it is a lifestyle and not a career.
