Durley, too?

Yes, because he's going to redshirt, thus turning himself into the state of Texas' newer, younger version of Tim Duncan.

Skitch

Everyone knows that we don't need to worry about Durley going to SMU.  A school that prestigious would never recruit a player like him.  Don't you know that he didn't even play in high school???

THEultimateWARRIOR

Durley needs to go to JUCO for a year. Plain and simple. He didn't play his senior year of high school, how in the hell is he going to even come close to competing in the best conference in college basketball.

bilsu

Durley needs to come here next year. We do not have a scholarship problem until 2013. We have with Durley 14 players. 7 are guards. Counting Durley we have three centers, two of which have a history of getting hurt. Gardner shoulder and knee. Otule foot, foot and knee. We have only four forwards and two of them are Anderson and Jones. I do not care how good he is, we simply need his size and body at a minimum for practice.

Posts like this make me facepalm.
Sorry, I was just trying to take a guess.  I think he can be a good player, but Im just worried that he might be getting antsy sitting on the bench.

Tell me, what is it in Durley's game that has you convinced that he will gain more out of being at a JUCO than he will being at Marquette and competing against guys like Otule and Gardner every day in practice, and working out with Todd Smith? Which moves have you seen, or perhaps more importantly, not seen that have you so sold that he will benefit more from a JUCO?

I'll save you the trouble and answer those questions for you. Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

If Durley isn't ready, I trust that the coaching staff will make the decisions necessary to either park him at a JUCO or redshirt for a year, find him a school better suited to his abilities, or simply move on to other options. But there is no input from you or anyone else on this board that will help whatsoever. You don't know why he didn't play. You don't know what his capabilities are or readiness level is. You don't know what the coaching staff's plan is for him.

All these posts people have made about what Durley "needs" are as ridiculous as they are repetitive. Until we actually see what he can or can't do, it is unfair and uneducated to assume that the coaching staff made a mistake. And more than anything, it's a low-blow at a kid that hasn't done anything to justify such unfair treatment.

jsglow

I'm sure Durley knows what he's in for.  And I remember the team celebrating the success that Mbao had in his stint.  I won't be shocked to see the young man contribute some minutes here and there in non conference.

I'm going to go ahead and trust Buzz' judgment in recruiting players over yours.

Everyone, myself included, talks about Durley without ever having seen him play. Let's reserve judgement to Buzz on this one....if he wants him, Marquette should be happy to have him donning the Blue and Gold.

MattyWarrior

I want all the recruits to show up and the rest of the Core to stay, what good does it do to upset the team chemistry by
having a player leave? From what I could see , they all cheered for each other to succeed. Have you ever been on any team
and experienced how close you get with each other?

Why?  He has lots of practice at it.

The cheerleaders, his parents, heck, the entire student body at his high school probably talk about the guy and none of them have seen him play either

Tugg Speedman

Has Durley ever seen Durley play?

I don't know that you can say that his inexperience cannot be overcome.  For instance, you just started posting here recently.....   oh, I think I see your point now.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I vote no, but I'm an eternal optimist.

Your the most negative person on this board, sorry that I have a lot of school spirit? Sorry that I've been on espn, sports illustrated, and fox sports for repping a blue suit for my team. On to Durley, All I'm saying is that I believe it would be in the teams best interest if he were to get some valuable GAME experience since he did not play much in high school. You guys are correct in saying the time with Todd Smith and playing with Chris and Davante is great but, at some point you have to draw the line between being able to perform in practice verse performing well in a game. If you ever played sports you would realize that there is a huge difference. He needs the game experience right now and I don't see him getting that at Marquette. I hope I am wrong as he has a lot of upside since we really don't know that much about him.

I like Derrick Wilson. He needs to learn not to use his hands on defense. The way he played against Wisconsin when Cadougan was suspended should have everyone here giving him a pass. I think he is better than you are giving him credit for.

Great post.   Based on facts.  What a novelty (making fun of other posters who speak out of their arse).

You do realize that one of the problems with this scenario is that he could go to a JUCO and decide not to come here right?  If Buzz believes he has a big upside, it would be much better to get him here right away and not risk sending him to a JUCO.

Goose

Wilson did perform well against the Badgers and that is a positive. He struggled much more than expected by me as the season wore on. I think that in Buzz's system we need a more athletic PG. I have nothing against him but think that he is not the answer down the road as a starter.

He could have played football at Stanford. I'll take his athleticism. Give him time. He was relegated to a role last year that didn't allow him to show off his entire offensive skill set. He didn't need to score.

Very valid point Sultan. I stand corrected. At the same time though neither you or I know what he is capable of so I agree with you that we should just trust Buzx.
