I was watching Garnder closely and he still limps around. I am not sure if it is a mental thing but I hope he didn't come back before he is ready.

Healthy enough to be effective... but I am definitely glad we aren't playing until Thursday.

brewcity77

Yeah, but even when he was 100%, he still limped around. I'm convinced he's just got the gangsta limp going on. Besides, if he can put up 8/8 in 15 minutes, that's valuable whether he's 100% or not.

No way Davante is 100%.  He was dragging that leg behind him.
Have some patience, FFS.

BrewCity is right. Davante always walked with a limp around campus even when he wasnt hurt. Granted I dont think hes 100% but I dont think its anything too pressing.

We've developed another persona. We need Davante for a change of pace now (a very effective change of pace). If we get 15 minutes like this every game, it is golden.

JamilJaeJamailJrJuan

He is clearly not 100%, but he's good enough to play. He was a big factor in the game yesterday. I don't see him getting a whole lot more than 15 minutes in any game from here on out. But, he was still very effective yesterday. Super pumped to have him back.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Agree 110%. I've felt all season long that DG was at his best when he was playing 15-20 minutes. Even when he put up some of those monster numbers, I'm not sure he was as efficient as he would be in limited minutes.

I wonder if some of it was mental. He might not have been sure how far he could push it or was being cautious. I'm sure it is still bugging him, but hopefully some of it is mental and getting back on the floor will help.

He's one player who can contribute even if he can't run or jump.

He's definitely still hurt. He couldn't even get up and down the floor yesterday. G-Town had from 4-on-5 opportunities with Gardner limping back.

I'm all for 10-15 minutes of sheer offensive productivity, but we will need him for more than that in the tournament (the Big One) if we want to stack up well against some of the big guys. He's got to get healthy fast (actually was kind of disappointed with the extent of his limp yesterday... he's had 6 weeks off  :().

Do we sit him for the Big East Tournament? Based on his continued limp after 6 weeks off, would that even matter? I dunno.

It was good to see him back, but sad that he was so obviously still injured... and that talk about the "gangster" walk... I don't buy it. Gangster's don't get burned up and down the court like that.

Yea, because he can control how fast his body heals.

How many times did his man score?  I am not being a smart ass, but just asking because I don't remember watching and thinking he was getting beat every play.

Couldn't tell you exactly how many points his man scored and it would be a tough question to answer as Buzz was pulling Davante in and out quite frequently. What i'm saying is that I watched him run up and down the court with his leg almost completely extended, like when you see a guy with a full leg cast on (ok maybe not that bad but you get the point).

He's still injured is my point and we are going to need as much as possible from him.

chapman

The best thing for it may have been getting into the game.  He now gets four days to rest and/or get some practice, depending on how it feels.  He's not going to be asked to go more than 15 or so, the only concern is if it's feeling better each day - we'll see if he can keep going if we advance to Friday or Saturday.

Definitely possible.  I'm not sure he's ever been hurt before, and there were times when both he and Buzz were frustrated with the recovery.  Makes you think just not being used to being injured could play a role in it.  The good thing is he wasn't tentative in the way he played the game at all.

LON

The fact that he didn't stiffen up over halftime (to the point he could no longer go) has me thinking optimistically.

gardner really helped yesterday whenever GT went to zone. he's able to post, recieve the ball and make a play, whether it be dishing to a shooter/cutter, taking his own shot, or getting an O Reb.

even if only for 10-15 minutes, he can limit what defenses can do against us...

bilsu

Gardner had eight rebounds yesturday and I am not sure he got off the ground for any of them. His girth and hands make him good even if he cannot jump.

If he can play and wants to play and if medical personnel do not believe he will do any further harm, you play him Thursday against Ville. If victorious, you re-evaluate Friday morning. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Obviously, most important is the real tourney.

Absolutely.  On many, if not most, of the rebounds Davante got, the ball came to him, and not the other way around.  Now maybe he was just the luckiest guy on the floor, but I would prefer to think that after the shots were released, he dragged himself into the spot where he thought the ball was going to wind up, and he was right.
