Uhhh, he damn well did. Down 18-2, he found a way to rally the troops and peck away at a Vanderbilt-esque deficit. That was coaching folks, pure and simple.

Now compare what Louisville did when the game was on the line late. They were out of control, almost panicked and played right into our defense. In some ways, they seemed lost and very much out of control.

I know SoGs, go to players, but Buzz should have an honorable mention. Nice going Buzz.

I would contribute it more to the fact that Louisville wouldn't shoot 90% FGs and 100% 3PA all game long.

A lot of Louisville fans have been asking for Pitino to be released of his coaching duties.  i.e. murray state loss last year.

I myself never really though of Pitino as a great coach, but that's my $0.02

Louisville has been decimated by injuries.

Marra out for the year. Blacksheer has been hurt and hasn't played yet. Kuric(leading scorer) missed the last 2 games including ours. Van Tresse is hurt. Buckles got hurt in his first minute of play against us. They couldn't press because they have no depth.

Pitino is a very good coach who has proven it time and again over the years.

How would MU do without DJO, Otule, Mayo, and 1 or 2 others?

Injuries.

With two important cogs out, that's not only ppg you're losing but defense, 10 more fouls, and leadership, just to name a few.

Likewise, when Knowles and UL bested us did Pitino outcoach Buzz?

One of my best friends is a UL fan. Sat next to him at the game yesterday, and at both the Vanderbilt games for UL in Louisville and MU in Milwaukee.

Include him in the camp that is leaning toward a coaching change. His comments on UL right now are very similar to what they were in about 2000 on Crum. UL not winning a tournament game for a third consecutive year would be a big black mark for he and a lot of UL fans (only other time that's happened in the last 40 years was the final 4 years of Crum into the 1st year of Pitino).

Murray State is a top ten team this week

If Louisville gets in and somehow manages to upset Murray State will the Racers fire their coach?

This.

Louisville is severely undermanned and that pace during the first six minutes simply could not hold up.

And they just lost another guy (Buckles) for the remainder of this year...and all of next year per ESPN.

That must be a killer knee injury to miss a season and a half.

Absolutely, I'm sure Louisville could find another coach with better credentials than Rick Pitino. I believe Phil Jackson and Bobby Knight are available. Otherwise, can't think of anyone.

UL didn't play Murray State last year. Guessing you're referring to Morehead State.

I'm pretty sure he just got back from the same exact injury (missed the first 8 games of this season while still rehabbing it).  Tearing an ACL one time is bad enough/a hard enough rehab, I would guess doing it twice is incredibly difficult.  I have never torn an ACL, so I don't personally know for sure, though.

The article wasn't specific about the nature of the injury but if I read it correctly it was his other knee, not the one he previously injured.  Hate to see injuries totally derail a kid's passion/potential future.

Buzz said that during his first timeout when the team was getting smoked, that he didn't say a word.   Now that is good coaching.   Pitino has so many injuries that it is difficult to know whether he is doing a good job or not.

Pitino is undoubtedly an excellent coach.  Only coach to lead three teams to the Final Four, including Providence, completely rebuilding Kentucky from sanctions, and doing a damn fine job at UL.

But he is on the downside of his career - a slide that started with his "issues" a couple years ago.

Ahh OK, I just thought during the broadcast they said he was holding the knee he had a knee brace on.  But agreed.

I think of it more of a "bang" or speed hump.

There are a lot of New Englanders who don't think he's such a hot-crap coach.
