I think we finish this season around 10, and start next year about the same

The scoop poll this week on scoop says 15.

I think they underestimate the Ox.

Fear the Ox.

Coaches poll has us at 17.  No other BE teams in top 25.

We are ranked above ND and Becky.  Ha ha.

No love for BE from coaches.  http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rankings

Will be curious to see what AP says whe it comes out....for comparison to coaches.

And yes, preseason polls are pretty meaningless, except as fodder for meaningless posts like this one.  ;)

LloydMooresLegs

Creighton at 28, G'town at 31 and Nova rec'd a few votes.

Gonzaga and VCU just ahead of us.  SLU mentioned in others.  No Dayton. :o

Old BE teams pre-season ranked

# 3 Louisville
# 7 Syracuse
#17 Marquette
# 19 Uconn
#22 Notre Dame

If the old Big East was still together, wouldn't this be a disappointing start?  I seem to recall years where the old BE had 10 teams ranked.

I don't ever recall 10 ranked Big East teams...ever.

10 or 11 in the tournament, sure, but not ranked.

I think the above listing would be a pretty average start to the old Big East. Not surprisingly fantastic, perhaps slightly disappointing, but certainly within the range of expectations.

Did a little homework on preseason rankings since we joined the BE (USA Today Coaches...what we have out now)

2005-2006..... 5 teams ranked
2006-2007..... 5 teams
2007-2008..... 5 teams
2008-2009..... 7 teams
2009-2010..... 6 teams
2010-2011..... 4 teams
2011-2012..... 6 teams
2012-2013..... 4 teams

So never more than 7, and an average of 5.

This year's rankings would be exactly in line with the old Conference.

Marquette all the way up to #6 in Sports Illustrated's new power rankings.

Totally off-topic, but this caught my eye when I opened the thread--I absolutely love watching this play loop over and over again.  I love that there were basically four ways we could have won--Vander nailing the layup, Jamil or Lockett with the high tip back, or Ox sitting and waiting for one of his patented under-the-hoop, how-the-heck-did-he-get-a-hand-on-that tip.  Great play Buzz.

AP is same as coache's poll.  Still ahead of ND and Becky.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/ncaa/men/polls/

Old BE is well rated.  New BE very under rated.

It's a preseason poll where 90% of this stuff is garbage.  They're voting on name, what they think is coming back, etc.  Means nothing.  A poll in January is where they should start.

Last year being the exception. Inferior coaching betrayed superior talent, including two NBA Lottery draft picks.

It's pretty well established that the preseason poll is a better predictor of tournament success than the last poll before the tournament.

I'll disagree, but if you can link an article or two on this established fact I would like to read it?   I'll take that bet, considering a bunch of the teams in the preseason poll don't even make the NCAA tournament, let alone win a game in it.

Now, I know Ken Pom and others will say the preseason top team tends to do well in the tournament and maybe that's what you mean, but I'm talking about the entire poll, not the top team.  But he also says, "In so much as tournament performance is indicative of which team is best, which we know is not always the case, but over 21 years the final poll should have a leg up on the pre-season poll."  I thought I would underline another part...another expert saying the winner of the NCAA tournament isn't always the best team....  ;D

If we take the top 25 and those receiving votes (meaning some writer somewhere said that team is 25th or better in the country) and looked at how they did in the NCAA tournament vs the final poll before the tournament.  I'm guessing it wouldn't be the case because 99.9% of the top 25 at the end of the year will make the tournament as will about 95% of those receiving votes.  For the preseason poll, about 80% will make the tournament and only about 50% of those receiving votes.

17.  No movement this week from what I can tell

Next Monday, 11/18, will be real interesting........

By the way, ND sucks. Congrats to Pitt.  Revenge for last year's theft by ABC's refs.

Just hijacked my own thread.

I could be wrong but from a cursory glance I don't think any ranked team lost on opening weekend. Everything should stay the same

Interesting...no one lost in the top 25, but Ohio State moves from 11th up to 10th, trading places with Florida.

It will be very nice if we pick off a top ten team this early in the season.

four assists, that's brutal. I like Wilson but he just can't shoot. I know Buzz will turn it around
by March, but that second half was hard to watch, just like Syracuse last year. Look for them to
play well on the west coast.

AP has Marquette at 25. Creighton at 23.

A good win Thursday followed by a solid victory over ASU on the road and we start our climb back up.
