Syracuse went to ND rated # 1 and lost by 9 pts. The next week they were ranked #3.  MU goes to ND ranked #15 and loses by 19 pts.  I'm guessing we drop more than 2 spots even with at least 3 teams ranked ahead of us losing.  Thoughts?

Given the teams ahead and behind us who lost this past week, 18 to 20-ish seems about right.

Is it just me or does MU always seem to be the one team that voters punish more than any other when they lose just one game?? They always seem to drop 4-5+ spots, where as other teams lose, and will only drop a spot or two, regardless of what other ranked teams around them did that week. I will bet anyone that MU will drop more spots losing @ Notre Dame(even though other ranked teams ahead of them and behind them lost), than will UW for losing at home to Ohio State.

I get that Ohio State is #3 in the country, and ND is un ranked, but I also understand ND has beaten 5 ranked teams this year more than any other team in the country, and I also know how hard it is to win at ND, so why don't the voters?? It's not like MU just lost to DuhPaul.

Have trouble believing there is an anti-Marquette conspiracy. Sportswriters and coaches just don't think like that.

I have a hard time seeing us fall further than 18. #9 Michigan State lost, #11 UNLV lost, #13 Creighton lost, #16 Virginia lost, #19 Wisconsin lost, #20 Indiana lost, #23 Michigan lost, #24 Gonzaga lost, #25 Vandy lost twice.

San Diego State, St. Mary's and Florida State could all jump in front of us, but no way they all do. SDSU would be most likely. Creighton and UNLV have an outside chance of dropping behind us.

I'd say 17 or 18 sounds about right.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

#20 in Goodman and Parrish top 25. Same slot as last week.

#18 in Seth Davis top 25. He has us at 17 last week.

Both polls have ND in at 24.

#17 AP / #18 Coaches Poll

Looking below us, in the AP, there are only 2 teams from 16-20 that didn't lose a game, and honestly, I'm not even convinced both SD State and St Mary's will leap us. FSU could make a big move from 21, but I think we don't drop much. In the Coaches, 3 teams from 16-22 went unbeaten, and they are all in the 16-19 range. I could see us dropping 3 spots there, though it's possible we'll stay ahead of one of them.

The positive about this time of year is that teams have built up a solid profile and won't drop far because of one loss. The problem is that if you don't lose, you'll climb slowly for the same reason.

MU came in at 19 on the Coaches Poll this morning.

Florida State and Mississippi State were ahead by only a few votes a piece.

Funny but i feel marquette would handle teams 18-12 quite easily.

I think Michigan State (Draymond Green) and Miss. State (Rinardo Sydney) could give MU fits, but the rest of the teams I think MU would take 8/10. Obviously all assumptions.

yes i agree but mid majors at 16 -13 just looks odd and murry st at 7. Reminds me of a few years ago when new mexico st grabbed at 3 seed after playing no one and got bounced second round.

Murray State is garbage, and should not be ranked higher than 15 out of principle.

Marquette drops to No. 18 in the AP Poll. Golden Eagles are No. 19 in the Coaches Poll. #mubb

Agreed.  They're a team that if they had some losses and weren't ranked could pull off a first round upset just because they can be dangerous, but they are not a threat to make even the Sweet 16 in my opinion, unless they get a seriously favorable matchup.

I'm hoping St. Mary's destroys them in the BracketBuster.

I like your confidence, but we couldn't even beat Villanova, Seton Hall and Washington "quite easily," not to mention the games we've lost.

When we're on, we can beat most teams. When we're not, we can lose to lots and lots of teams. Same can be said of most teams in the country -- including, obviously, Notre Dame.

I see where you're coming from but really, look at the teams from 12-18.

San Diego State- Best wins: Arizona, Cal, UNLV... Loses: Creighton, Baylor, Colorado State

UNLV- Best wins: UNC, ILL...loses: Wichita State, Wisconsin, SDSU, Wyoming...went to overtime against the likes of Boise State, UC Santa Barbara and Air Force.

St. Mary's- Best wins: Webber State, Gonzaga (their schedule SUCKS)...loses: Denver, Baylor

Creighton- (so overrated) Best wins: Iowa, Nebraska, Wichita State...loses: St. Joes, Missouri State, Northern Iowa

Florida State- Has some nice wins...but have lost to Princeton, Harvard and Clemson

I just don't think any of those teams are THAT good.  I am also not sure we are THAT GOOD without Gardner, either.

They won every game they played, what else do you want them to do?
