You'd think we would all be numb to this by now...

It hurts because of the talent level on this team. A team as talented as this one should NOT lose 17 point leads. Period. Just an absolutely disgusting loss. And Buzz wants to sit Chris down for the rest of the year, when he's physically able to play?? Good call, Buzz.  ?-(

I want this quote to serve as a reminder to the vast majority of scoop posters in regards to the MU BB program.

Because we are about to get killed by the #1 team in the country.

denverMU

Because we stopped playing defense.

Blackhat

That's not poop hurting your butt.

It took me record time to get over this loss.

Just another plaque on the Choke Hall of Fame.  Just gotta find some room on the wall to mount it.

Allowing a team to shoot 63% at this level is inexcusable for both the players and coaches.

We looked awesome in the first half and I still expected us to lose when we were up 15.  It hurts that I've seen this movie so many times that I expect it.

Blackhat

Your point on fg % sums up my continuous frustrations with Buzz after 3 years.   It's the same each year.   He needs to find a way to add length to this team or it will be this same crap.

Hards Alumni

It hurts because you are a little bitch.

And if I'm not mistaken, as well as we played in the first half, Georgetown still shot 50% in the first half.

Jacks DC

The defense was never there, but the offense was dominant early on.

The thing is, I expected us to lose by 5-8 points.  So losing by 3 to a very good team on the road doesn't seem too bad.  Just losing in that fashion, again, is crushing.

Could be the third ranked team and lose to Temple.

It doesn't hurt nearly as bad when you're trailing almost all game.

And wildy overranked.

wojosdojo

...because as soon as the lead got down to about 12 and trickled down you knew everything was going to go gtowns way. When the lead was cutting down all I asked is that we gave them contested shots but it was just layup after open shot after layup. I'm at the point where I'm asking myself if I can watch these games anymore. Yikes.

I didn't think this one hurt nearly as much. I guess because I never felt like the game was won. I remember saying in the chat that GTown still had a run, the only problem was that we didn't respond until they had the lead. This didn't feel anything like Louisville to me. That one was gut-wrenching.

mileskishnish72

It's pretty sad when we have to take solace in the fact that a particular bad loss was not as wrenching as another.
The fact of the matter is, they spit the bit. I wasn't able to watch it, but it sounds like a LVille replay. My feeling then was that this team is LOUSY when they start to milk the clock, and the offense disappears. Is this a defect that coaching can correct?

bilsu

It hurts, because most of hoped rpior to the start of the game that we would win, but knew we probably lose. Get up 17 and hope turns into no way we lose this game and then get it ripped away from us. If this game was played in +4-4 range it would not of hurt.

Bilsu nailed it here.  Does anyone have the clip from Glengary Glen Ross when Alec Baldwin is berating them about leads and closing?  If so, please post.  This team needs that lecture.

I'm starting to believe MU may not be a basketball team at all, but rather, a laboratory conducting experiments each season  to determine which leads (if any) are ever safe.

I am with Hilltopper. I got overit quickly. I was wondering why and I think, in addition to kind of expecting it with the big lead...I actually thought we played really well most of the game. Let's not lose sight of that.

MileHigh

I think it has been said over and over again that we have seen this story before.  But going into last night's game, with losses at LSU and getting ran off our own court by Vandy, that we really needed a bounce back.  The win against Nova was a bounce back after a loss, but it wasn't a decisive win.  We almost blew that game too.

Going into this week, we are facing two top 10 teams.  I was hoping we would go 1-1, even though 2-0 would be better :)  A win at Georgetown and a lose at the Carrier Dome.  This loss last night hurt so much, because blowing a 17 pt lead is demoralizing.  Going into this week, I thought we could play even with Syracuse.  But after last night's choke, what is the confidence of the team going into Syracuse?

That's why it hurts, b/c I'm afraid to see what happens at Syracuse.  Oh well, at the end of the day it's just a game.  You go through some tough patches, let's see where we are come March!
