Seems that some numbers are more popular than others.

MountainCreekHouse

I didn't think any digit over 5 could be worn because the refs can't make any solitary digit over 5 with their hands
Farva:"Give me six Schlitzes."
O'Hagan: "Take it easy, Rod."
Farva: "Open bar, dude!"

Correct, the largest possible number is 55

They didn't use that rule when jersey numbers first came about.

If you look at the players who wore numbers above 5, you won't recognize many names.

Was there a Marquette connection to Apollo 11?

Not sure but it may just be in the namesake and capitalizing on the event for MU's sake: http://www.marquette.edu/universityhonors/peremarquette.shtml#apollo

MUMac,

Thanks for that link to the SI Vault. That whole article is fantastic. Great names, great memories and great writing. ( Durham plans on starting Cowens with four blacks, the fans are already calling them the "busted flush") Priceless.

I probably won't be too productive this afternoon.

It's the NBA, Kobe never gets fouls called on him. Ref doesn't have to worry about it.

Ah that's right.  They received the Pere Marquette Discovery Award.

Yes, I was present at the event held at Brooks Memorial Union. Quite spectacular with a lot of media coverage.
