I'd be shocked if they don't hire a US coach for a US world cup.

I just want a coach who can make the team more than the sum of its parts. A coach who will play to the strengths of the players/player pool and not be tied to any one "system."

Also, I don't care if the coach wants or doesn't want influence on building us soccer or our development system. Let this person focus solely on the next 2 years.

This is me being cynical, but Id be VERY shocked if its not Cherundolo.  Just seems like such an absolute US Soccer move, which would be a very underwhelming hire.  At least he's more of an unknown quantity, as opposed to a repeated bum like GGG, and played on some US teams that fought their asses off.

You're probably right, but if there ever were a time to take a big swing, this is it.

As for the second part, good luck finding an established, quality manager who won't insist on implementing his system and philosophies. A coach who's willing to bend his principles to land the job probably isn't a coach you want in that job.

There was never a chance it was going to be Klopp, and you can put Poch in the same group; make a call as a courtesy, but expect a quick no so you can move on.  Previous experience at an International level should be a priority when putting together a list, although I fully expect it to be Cherundolo or a different MLS name.

Klopp feels like he's gonna take his time.  Take over the German team from Nagelsmann (who I think is too young not to go to another big club) and do that for a cycle and then retire.

He could have been a lifer at LFC if he wanted and I don't see him as a fit (in his mind) somewhere like Madrid, Barca, PSG, or even Bayern...and it makes no sense to step down to a lower club level

You could tell he was burned out at LFC, I think it was the right time for a break.  I think you're spot on that he'll take Germany from '26-'30 and then be done.

It was fun the at least imagine him in that role, but agreed, definitely burnt out from his time at Liverpool and I'm glad he doubled down on wanting a break.

I'm personally intrigued by Herbe Renard.

USWNT missed several golden opportunities against Mexico.  1-0 could have easily been 4-0

The notion has gone around on social media that U.S. Soccer is only looking at domestic candidates for the #USMNT, and lacks ambition to go higher.

Multiple sources have told me over the last day that is flat-out, unequivocally, false.

I think this is legit and totally fair, mostly cause Tannenwald is a legit soccer writer and not a shameless water carrier like some *cough* Tom Bogert *cough*.  But the fact there are no names even hinted at or mentioned isn't remotely comforting (not that it's his fault obviously, he was given nothing).

I don't expect the whole search and plan to be given away and revealed, but when the USSF has a history of pretending to make full on forays after top international coaches revealed after the hire a disappointing retread, well...

Matt Croaker gets no benefit of the doubt, justifiably, until proven otherwise.

Very well played Euro Final. England fought back, but Spain was the better side for the bulk of the match. Really impressive tournament from them, notching 7 wins in 7 matches.

Those series of headers late in the game was pretty amazing.

Cmon Miami. You've hosted big events before.  This is embarrassing.
