On the road, TERRIFYING...at home, very much winnable.

So was Cincinnati, St. John's, Wisconsin, UCONN.  We need to get our home MoJo back

How about playing Louisville?
If that's the only thing that scares you, you must be projecting a 2 loss season, right?

I don't think they will be anymore scary than some of the teams we will have to play during BE season.
This was a discussion that began with the allegation that Vandy wasn't a scary game next year. The fact that we have other scary games isn't an issue.

You make no sense. Why would I be afraid to play a team that beat us by 1 at their place, when they come to us? We will be better next year as I expect they will be. They flunked out in round 1 again. Doesnt scare me

I think you got his point.  He's just saying it will be a tough game.  One MU should probably win at home, and important for MU to get a good non-conf. win.

Mr. Nielsen

This date is not set in stone. Green Bay at Marquette on Saturday, Dec 10.
So my guess would be that Marquette is at Wisconsin on Dec.3

I hear Marquette is planning on playing a game in CA next year.  Would be nice for those of us on the west coast.

Who would that be? MU is playing a scrimmage versus USC in Milwaukee.

MU road trips are Wisconsin, LSU and Paradise Jam Toury.

LSU is Monday, Dec.19. I would guess at 6pm on ESPNU.

I'm glad there is no pre-season games!

I think the perspective is this: They beat us by 1 a their place--so coming back home should give us an advantage. We'll likely be favored to win.  But they're good enough they could very easily go home with a victory.

Hence, its a scary game.

I don't understand the logic of calling any game in which we're the underdog "scary."  In my opinion, a game can't be scary if you're not expected to win in the first place.

To me, UWM will easily be the most frightening game on the schedule.

If we lose to Pitt or Georgetown or Louisville?  Meh.  We weren't expected to win anyway and hopefully we make a nice showing--prove we at least deserve to be on the same stage.

Lose to UWM?  Very frightening to consider that possibility. Anyone on the roster will be taking crap about it until the day they die.  They would become Marquette's own mini-Bartmans.

Mr. Nielsen

Many of us on this site have talked about how Marquette could only play 16 total games at the Bradley Center this season without losing money. Well, last season was the the first season that MU has done three different price tiers for games. Price A for Wisconsin, Syracuse, Seton Hall & ND. Price B- The other Big East games. Price C- For the non-conference games.

To break this down for the lower bowl, season-tickets are $570, not counting in what you have to pay for the Blue & Gold Fund.
Price A- $50 per ticket
Price B- $40 per ticket
Price C- $30 per ticket
That adds up to be $710 for the season, but you pay $570. It always was before $30 tickets for the lower bowl, so Marquette in the 2011-2012 season is still getting the $570 they always get. They now charge more money for Big East single game tickets to make up the difference. Or you can say it that Marquette charges it's season-ticket holders per game for every game, non-conference pricing.

Buzz Williams' Spillproof Chiclets Cup

Assuming alternating sites as in past years, Big East home schedule should be the following, either as a home game, or part of a mirror.

Home
Rutgers
Georgetown
USF
Pitt
Villanova
Louisville

Road Games
Cincinnati
St. John's
West Virginia
DePaul
Syracuse
Providence

Unknown
Notre Dame
Seton Hall
Connecticut

If they alternate the three unknowns from the last time we played them once in a season (2009-10) the schedule would look like this:

Home
Rutgers
Georgetown
USF
Pitt
Villanova
Louisville
Seton Hall
Connecticut

Road Games
Cincinnati
St. John's
West Virginia
DePaul
Syracuse
Providence
Notre Dame

Mirror Games
2 from Home Games pool
1 from Road Games pool

Not sure if they will factor that at all, but it at least gives us one idea of what the pre-mirror schedule might look like.

Mr. Nielsen

It's would be great to have the champs (UConn) at the BC again!

2009-10 & 2010-11 season MU was at UConn. So, I agree UConn should be back this season at the BC.

So what would people's picks for mirror games be, based on the above? Pick two teams from Home and one team from Away.

Home (2): Connecticut, Georgetown, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Seton Hall, South Florida, Villanova

Away (1): Cincinnati, DePaul, Notre Dame, Providence, St. John's, Syracuse, West Virginia

Here are my picks...

Georgetown: With Freeman and Wright graduating, they should be a shadow of themselves, but G'town schedules masterfully and is almost always a top-15 RPI team (4 of last 5 years). It's a winnable road game against what is always a competitive team that would look good on the resume come March.

Seton Hall: Two reasons, first I think getting an away game there would be a good chance at a win without Hazell and Robinson, and second, I want revenge for them beating us in the last conference game last year. And no reason we can't mirror them again, we repeated both 'Nova and DePaul in 08-09 and 09-10.

Notre Dame: With Abro and Martin back, they should at worst be a mid-level Big East team, and will probably still get an NCAA bid. I hate the Irish and until DePaul gets back on their feet, there's no one in the Big East I want to beat more. It's a good chance at a quality win at home, and I certainly would hate to lose down there and not have a chance to salvage some dignity.

Mr. Nielsen

I want L'ville as a mirror team. The games are classic battles going back to when they started playing in Conf. USA. I think the L'ville fan base gets fired up when they see Marquette coming to town.

I like playing Georgetown. They got a good jesuit thing going there.

I'd love another MU road game there.  Despite the game outcome my family had a really good roadtrip down to Newark to see the game with friends who are Seton Hall alums.

MUBurrow

I'd say Seton Hall, Nova, and ND.

I say Nova just because they don't really scare me right now when I look at their squad, but should be a pretty good team nonetheless - so help with SOS etc. Also I don't think their Philadelphia arena that they use for big games is all that tough a place to play as a lot of other BEast road games, so I think the risk-reward is really there when playing nova in philly.

Give me any combination of 6 games against these teams (Rutgers, DePaul, Seton Hall, Providence, S. Florida) with the mirror games against any of those and single games against the other two, that's 8 wins right there. Just get "W's". The easiest way to get a top 4 finish/BE title is what I want.

MU Buff

I've found some discussion on this question but can't find a definite answer.  Are we going to have 30 regular season games or 31 or won't we know until the schedule is set?  I did see that someone said a tournament counts as one game so if that's the case we would only be able to play 30 because the Paradise Jam is only three games.  Any clarification would be helpful.

Mr. Nielsen

I'm willing to bet, MU will have 31 games this season.
