Then it was McGuire vs Smith, now its WILLIAMS VS WILLIAMS. Then it was the beautiful new OMNI in Atlanta. Now its....well, ....Newark.

Then Dean Smith hadnt yet won an NCAA ring. Since then he won two, and the UNC program has won two more (total --five). Since then --Jordan, Worthy, Jamison, Hansborough....and us, well, ...Wade.

This is a big stage game between a great program vs a used to be great, hopes to be again.

Where were you when the Warriors met the powder Blue in 1977, and we last celebrated the top of the NCAA mountain?
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

In diapers, I was born in February 1977. In 2003, I came to MU and we went to the Final Four. Right now, I'm back at a campus bar for the first time since I graduated...karma?

I was just a kid, but was pretty much a sports nut (knew all sorts of stats, etc.)  I remember asking my dad about this Al McGuire guy and this school named Marquette.  Still remember my dad explaining it all to me.  How MU was really good for a bunch of years, but didn't win it all.  Then, when it was not expected, they make a run for the championship and beat North Carolina in the final.  It was a long time ago, but I still remember it like it was yesterday.

Not even a thought.  My mom was born in 72'  we'll I hope I wasn't a thought at her age anyway!~ :)

Although I was old enough to play basketball in the driveway with my older brothers, unfortunately the Magic v. Bird final 2 years later was the first NCAA final I remember watching.

This board continues to make me feel older than almost anything I am involved in.

MU Fan in Connecticut

8 years old.

And the Newark arena is new.  It's only the second year of use.

I was there at the Omni in ATL. Unforgetable experience for the Warriors and all of us.

Trying to stay awake (11 years old) and hating Dean Smith and his stupid 4-corners offense.   Though, in retrospect, should probably send him a thank you card for going to it when he did.

In Milwaukee, 1977, sophomore at Marquette, cheering and going crazy with my friends in the Avalanche. Very, very good times.

Go Marquette!

Graduated High School in '77.

All literature from MU during the college selection process had Basketball photo's all over it. It was a deciding factor in my selection of Marquette.

On a side note, (not to derail the thread) In the fall of "77 to get season basketball tickets for the 77-78 year, we had to wait in line in the mall by Joan of Arc Church. 3 Nights! The entire mall was filled with tents. What a party! Great memory.

at a bar across the street from the NY Daily News. Went there after getting off work at 8:30. After many beers, went over to the paper and celebrated wildly with Ed Birdie, Class of "74, and called bars in Milwaukee.

I was in 8th grade watching on 61st and Wells St. After the game my sister took me down to MU campus and it was single greatest sports day of my life.

In my dad's urethra.

I was living in Tokyo Japan as a 13 year old.  My dad who also was a MU grad and myself listened to the game on the Armed Forces Radio network....

PickNRoll

Fourth floor Schroeder drinking PBR and watching on TV.  Ran down Wisconsin Avenue to the lake and walked back to the Ardmore.  Fantastic night.

I signed the contract to build my house that day. That evening watched my team (on TV) beat the four corners defense and become National Champions. It was a good day.
