Could Dawson be Buzz' Shumpert?

I don't see Buzz losing Dawson to MSU to have any bearing...maybe..and only very slightly losing Tokoto could have an impact..but that is negligble.  Keep in mind we lost Dawson shortly after Jamil Wilson transferred to MU..who are similar players.

Family matters - wife, kids, etc., - will be the only reason Buzz leaves MU - if he does.  Buzz has enough evidence he can recruit successfully to MU, and fully believes he can recruit to MU as well as needed to compete at a high level.  Winning Todd Mayo recruitment..Jamal Ferguson, etc....all positive to stay at MU.

Chico, a poster known as a spartan fan posted on the badger scout board that Dawson's handlers wanted to get paid and that Buzz was in the lead.    That is fact.     Dawson went to MSU and the spartan fan who had posted on the badger board about Buzz had nothing to say.   Also fact.   If you hadn't heard rumors, you would't be posting innuendo.

The Chico/MSU info is completely false. If Buzz played that game, as suggested, then he would have landed 3 more of his top targets in the last recruiting class.

Ahh yes, because you work at the NCAA, the Big Ten Network, Purdue and IU.  IWB, I respect your opinion, but you only get your info from ONE source....that is your flaw.  The world is bigger and there are multiple schools, conferences, etc involved.  I'm happy to provide you my info off line and the complaints that were registered.

But always remember, your source is from one source each time, not from the other sources...thus you have a myopic view.

Yup...and I said that poster was completely full of crap that MU and Buzz would never pay for a player...remember that?  If not, happy to quote it for you.  That was not the issue that MSU, IU, PU and others were upset about.

I support you often, but you are off the path here.  Details...?

Brandon Dawson, a stud inside player from Indiana...He chose Michigan State last fall.

Perhaps Chicos is correct on the horrible accusations that he is bringing up in his post, but it's Branden not Brandon, and he's a wing with great length and rebounding ability, not an 'inside player'.  Perhaps August 4 is 'fall' somewhere... not in the Midwest, but... dude might use a different calendar.  Chicos apparently doesn't follow the kid very close, except when there is an opportunity to make harmful accusations about our program... but, not surprising... after all, BJ isn't a traditional player.

So Big Ten Schools who are competing over a recruit against MU are your sources?  Think there is any bias there?  Did we ultimately land Dawson anyway?  If what we were doing was so wrong and shady as you continually imply - why have there been no sanctions against MU?  Did your NCAA source tell you they just decided to turn the cheek, and give Buzz and MU a pass because of your association with MU?

Brandon Dawson, a stud inside player from Indiana that MU, Purdue, IU, MSU and others battled recruiting for in the last two years.  He chose Michigan State last fall.  Those Big Ten schools were, to put it mildly, not happy with our recruitment of him and how we went about recruiting him.

I think MU Mac should have used Tokoto as an example instead of Dawson, for any number of reasons.

Frankly, I could care less if you did not like the example.  You act like you are in the know on the recruitment and are FAR from it.  FAR from it.

I did not mean to make the comment to start the firestorm.  My point in the comparison is that a factor in Creans decision to leave was that he would have a better shot at landing the elite recruits.  That year he lost out on Shumpert, a player he was in on from the start.  That, it is believed, was a factor.

Buzz has been trying to land elite recruits.  At one time it was speculated that we either led for or were high on the list with Dawson.  In the end, we were not a factor.

That was the only reason for my comment.  Certainly did not mean for another murff, er chico's hi-jack of a thread with his self proclaimed "insiders" knowledge.   ::)

No apology necessary MAC...your point is well taken...and I too believe Crean left due to feeling he'd have a better chance at landing elite recruits to Indiana..than to MU.  I also believe Buzz has A LOT MORE cache and recruiting chops than TC - which is why I'm glad the coaching change worked out how it did..

Sigh....Fall is when he SIGNED with Michigan State....November 10, 2010

Sorry Jaybee...but that is when you truly CHOOSE a school when you put your name to the paper.  Vander Blue "chose" Wisconsin...where is he playing?  I thought by now you would figure out what it means to CHOOSE a school.  SIGN THE LINE WHICH IS DOTTED (thank you Alec Baldwin)

Chicos, you'll backtrack and almost anything someone corrects you on - it's amazing.  The reality is a kid CHOOSES when they say they have CHOSEN.  BJ said he chose in early August.

You're creating bizarro definitions that help you feel like you're not wrong when you clearly are.  There are a ton of players that SIGN and later do not go to a school.

In addition, there are many players that go to a school on a basketball scholarship yet never sign an NLI and are not binded contractually.  If they choose to attend a school, but the grant-in-aid paperwork isn't finalized for a couple of weeks after they choose to attend the school, are you telling me that they haven't really chosen until they receive their grant papers?  Come on, bud.  You were wrong.  He CHOSE Michigan State in early August.

Mac, that's fine....my point remains there are more than just sources coming from MU.  Just last week I shared something with IWB about MU and HBO that he did NOT KNOW about.  Why?  Because it's a big world and things happen outside of Milwaukee.  I appreciate IWB's sources and he knows a ton about what is going on INSIDE the MU community, but that doesn't mean he hears all the sides to the story.  I know what those programs were upset about and what the rumblings were.  Does it make them false?  Maybe.  Did their concerns exist?  Absolutely.  Were their concerns registered?  Yup.

Sorry you don't like it, that's the deal.  No one here is all-knowing about MU...NO ONE.  Of course as soon as someone has different information that dare not go the way others would like it to go (Brad and others on Newbill), my guys at PU, IU and the NCAA, etc.  Sorry, but the world doesn't work that way.

I also said clearly months ago that what their concerns were made me squirmy.  If I thought it was a major violation I would say it, but for some reason you keep ignoring that part.  I like Buzz, hope he's at MU for years to come, but yes...I'd like to have the program run that doesn't get into gray areas.  If you disagree with that, you're certainly entitled to your POV.  I won't say you have some kind of complex or mental issues, you're free to act differently if you wish (and have).  Some are a win at all costs mentality...Just Win Baby.  I'm not.

Oh really...do you want me to put a list of 20 to 30 players just in the last two years that "chose" to attend a school but played somewhere else?  Please.  You CHOOSE when you sign the line which is dotted.  Nothing less.

Huh?  I said, "There are a ton of players that SIGN and later do not go to a school"... you want to put together a list of 20 to 30 players that supports what I said?  Sure, go ahead.

You CHOOSE when you CHOOSE.  When people asked him on August 4, "Branden.. why did you CHOOSE Michigan State" and he went into reasons such as "family - it's not too far from home, they're really all about education, I feel like I fit right in with their program", etc... if you were in the room, would you have said, 'BULLCRAP BRANDEN!  YOU HAVE NOT CHOOSEN YET!  YOU WILL CHOOSE AT THE EARLIEST IN NOVEMBER WHEN THE EARLY SIGNING PERIOD BEGINS!!!!

Better yet, on many occasions you have said that I4 has a ton of great kids coming in 2011-2014... how in the world can you say that these 2012-2014 kids are coming to I4 WHEN THEY HAVEN'T EVEN CHOSEN I4 yet??

BJ Dawson CHOSE Michigan State in August.  Period.

chico's, what I don't like is that you make it appear as though it is fact.  That is the issue I have had with your comments.  I retained the first paragraph.  In it you admit the "maybe".  First time I have seen you admit the "maybe".  Perhaps if you do this more regularly, especially with this particular discussion point, it would be more beneficial.

As to IWB, don't know why you brought him into the discussion.  I certainly did not.  Never said he was a source for me.

As for the rest of it, really confusing.  When have I ever had this discussion with you that I ignored anything?  I have been off this board for several years until the BE Tourney began.  Are you making things up?

The rest of the last paragraph certainly sounded accousatory for one who says they would not make accusatinos.  Are you saying I am a "win at all cost"?  Sure reads that way and you could not be further from the truth.

The other thing though I'm sure Corey understands is, going to OU means that might be home for 3 years.

+1

Capel last five years at OU.  Two years ago they went to the Elite 8 with Blake Griffin.  Now he's gone (and yes they were under .500 the last two years).

This is a hired gun job.  You'll get a lot of money but your one bad season away from getting axed.

Then, even if you take this job, their is this "little issue"

(and don't forget before Capel, Kelvin Sampson was the HC.  So this is a dirty program)

Oklahoma BB Star Scores Questionable Cash

http://www.tmz.com/2010/03/18/oklahoma-basketball-star-keith-gallon-ncaa-scandal/

University of Oklahoma basketball star Keith "Tiny" Gallon may have violated a cardinal NCAA rule by accepting thousands of dollars from a guy who appears to have been courting him.

Gallon -- a freshman center for the Sooners - scored a $3,000 wire transfer last August, according to a document obtained by TMZ. The money was deposited in a bank account jointly held by Keith and his mom, Sylvia Wright.

As for who gave Keith the dough -- the document shows it's Jeffrey Hausinger, a Merrill Lynch financial advisor who reps several professional athletes.

It's a violation of NCAA rules for any player or player's relative to receive money that isn't readily available to other players -- for example, a student loan or scholarship. We're told the rule clearly prohibits any agent, lawyer or financial advisor from trying to lure a player with money.

Keith made headlines last week when he announced he would return to OU next year rather than turn pro.

OU Athletic Director Joe Castiglione says the school is committed to following NCAA rules, and "any activity not in compliance is taken seriously and is acted upon swiftly."

We could not reach Keith. His mom had no comment. We called Hausinger for comment about the $3,000 wire transfer -- he said, "I don't think I want to talk to you," and hung up.
