I love the old guys that won't wear gold because it doesn't look good on them.

Hilarious.

Also, purchasing season tickets, but refusing to wear a gold t-shirt as some sort of small protest against the nickname has to be the most misguided/ironic idea I've heard in a while:

Dear MU,

Here is my large check and donation for season tickets, but just so you know, I won't wear gold. I hope you realize the mistake you made by changing the mascot every time you see me purchase another navy shirt from the gift shop. Eventually, maybe you will "get it".

Thanks again.

I'm sure MU is shaking in their boots with fear (as they cash your check... again and again).

First of all, I have no probem wearing gold - nothing looks particularly good on me anyway. Also, my problem was never with a color or a mascot - for me it's all about the Warrior nickname.

But I don't get why you find small symbolic protests so laughable. Marquette made what I consider to be a stupid and cowardly decision. That doesn't mean I don't still love the university and the team. And I'll continue to support them even as I continue to remind the powers that be how I feel about the issue. And if they continue to laugh all the way to the bank while ignoring me, I'll live with it.

I understand what you are saying, I mean, if you never buy a shirt with the GE on it, hey, that's your choice, and I get that. I'm not a big fan of the GE either. Totally cool if Warrior alumni don't buy GE stuff. I get it. But that's really preference, not protest.

I laugh at the idea that refusing to wear gold is somehow a righteous protest against the terrible act of changing the nickname.

"I'll continue to buy tickets, donate to the school, go to games, but I'll never be caught wearing gold!" (shakes fist in the air) The school colors are not new. That's not really proving a thing... to anybody.

If you are really that pissed about the nickname, quit buying tickets, and send MU a letter every year with a voided check for the amount you would have spent on tickets. Now that is a protest.

In my humble opinion, wearing blue is doesn't really prove a thing.

Considering I've seen this thread play out a bunch of times with the same arguments from the same parties I have no idea why I'm even going to try.  The logic some of you follow, and I do not mean to offend you, for not wearing gold is beyond my comprehension sometimes.

" ... wearing the exact same thing as everyone else goes against how a lot of us feel." ~Pepperoni_Cannoli

Really?  Basketball is a team sport.  Have we forgotten that?  MU has two colors: Blue and Gold.  If you're not wearing one of those two colors at the BC then you have to right to be there and call yourself an MU fan.  There's plenty of decent gold and/or blue apparel you can purchase to still let you express your individuality.  Be part of the team.

"Wearing gold, to me, is an inherent endorsement of our nickname and I will never do it." ~PRN

Right.  *sigh*  You know that Gold (and Blue) were the colors back in the stone ages when you were a student?  You realize that the selection of 'Golden Eagles' over the even move generic 'Eagles' was to simply play off the school colors, right?  When you don't wear gold to stand up against the perceived injustice done to you, you are also standing up against the Warriors era, Hilltoppers era, and the Blue and Gold era ... all of which used the color gold (and blue) as the school colors.  Its not an endorsement of the nickname ... its an endorsement, first and foremost, of the school.  Have you no pride in your school anymore? WOW!

As much as I would love a Gold-out, or any color-out (except white), the reality is that its never going to happen.  The baby-blue-out from a couple years ago was the only time it would've happened, but people got to their seats and were like: "Oh, look at this t-shirt they gave me.  I think I'll wear it tomorrow.  I can't cover up my gold sweater-vest at an MU game!"

*facepalm*

The poblem w the blue out was that they didn't put the shirts on the seats.  They were giving them out by the entrances.  When I got there, all they had left was mediums, which doesn't really work for this fatfuck.  Get all XLs, and have them in the seats and it might work.

GGGG

For those not wearing gold just remember that it will be easy to spot the badger fans. They always wear red and don't whine about it. I have a new gold shirt just for the occasion. Yes mrs. Sultan and I have returned to the MKE for this occasion.

Spotcheck Billy

the Mrs. & I will be in gold

I just want to input how putting a shirt on every seat doesn't work to well, games we've been to in the past that did this ended up with all of the shirts being stolen out of sections before we got to the BC and we were there 20 minutes before tip-off - this happened in the upper deck, YMMV in the season ticket holder regions

Will I wear gold? No, but my blue sweatshirt will have gold lettering, if that helps.

I don't know how the Warriors ever wore gold jerseys. Didn't they know they were inherently endorsing their future name change?

Got my gold hoodie ready to go, and the girlfriend, who didn't go to Marquette and always prefers to wear blue because she says it looks better, is already decked out in gold. Ring out Ahoya!

These jerseys were actually yellow and the blue was more of a royal color.
