New development regarding Faust, and not really a good one.

http://twitter.com/jeffborzello/statuses/22836616802

Faust now has a top 6 instead of top 4, with Kansas and Memphis joining Oregon State, Florida State, Marquette, and Maryland.

Seems like Maryland remains a leader with Marquette in 2nd. Oregon St. and FSU seem unlikely. Memphis is dangerous because apparently Faust is close with 2010 Memphis recruit Will Barton, but it is possible that won't matter at all if Barton is a one-and-done (which he has said is his intention). Kansas could obviously be dangerous as well, especially if they put on the full court press (which could happen if they miss out on some of their higher guard priorities, such as Josiah Turner or Ben McLemore).

Faust has a list of 6, with a top 4.  Borzello corrected that comment quickly.

But, it does appear Maryland and Marquette are probably the top 2.

At any rate, would love to see the young fella attend Marquette.

I do not see that as bad news, because it means he is not totally sold on Maryland.

You are right, the next day he linked an article that says the original 4 are still tops. Also says he has one official visit planned, to Memphis on Oct. 15. This one could take a while to play out, although there is no guarantee he makes it past the in-homes.

I think it has been talked about here before, but has Faust been on campus yet?

Meanwhile, I'd say for the next 24 hours, no news is good news regarding Quincy Miller. Heres hoping things remain quiet following his UL visit...

Couple comments about Miller from the UL board...

It seems Bello and Miller will delay their decision for a while and Josiah Turner didn't even show up.

Duke's Midnight Madness figures to be a star-studded affair as Rivers will be joined by Quincy Miller, the No. 5 player in the 2011 class according to Rivals, and Rodney Purvis, ESPN's No. 1 shooting guard in the 2013 class and No. 4 player overall, among others

Anyone hear who will be at MU's Midnight Madness this year?

Our recruits, of course: Jamil Wilson and David Singleton.

Don't know if you guys can read that but its a free article on the new 247 network. Just figured I'd post it since I know some of you were starved for info.

If you can't read the article heres the important quote. When asked of a possible commitment during his official to MD this weekend:

"I would say it's 50-50 [that I'll commit on Saturday]," said the 6-foot-5 Faust. "I'm really not sure if I'm going to make it or not."

If he makes it out of the weekend without committing MD fans officially start panicking big time.

If you are here...what is the feeling in MD on how the Faust visit went?  Do you still feel that MD fans should be worried that they didn't get the commitment?? Do you still feel MD is the leader?

Coach Gary Williams CRIED during the visit?  WTF?  Way to pull out all the stops Gary......although if I'm Nick's dad I'm thinking, "this is the guy I want teaching my son how to be a man?".  I could be way off base, but due to this and the fact that Nick hasn't committed to MD yet makes me think he is going elsewhere.

Similar to Vander, it sounds like there is alot of unnecessary pressure on Nick to committ to the "backyard" school.  I think he wants to go away, but is getting pressured from the locals, which is causing him to do this "50/50" thing.  I'm sure he would do fine at MD, but I think it would be best to get away.

In an unprecedented move by a NCAA basketball recruit, Nick Faust called up Marquette coach Brent "Buzz" Williams and Maryland coach Gary Williams and demanded a "cry off".  It is expected that the Williams who can shed the most tears will get Faust's immediate verbal commitment to play for their team.

MUScoop is investigating whether the use of onions to produce crying is an NCAA violation.

Maryland really has had a hard time in the ACC since Roy got to NC.  MD and Duke were the class of the ACC for a while, but NC has really retaken a dominant position in the conference.  Gary Williams did get a National Championship out of that time, so their fanbase can at least appreciate that.

That was probably a dumb statement by me. From all indications the visit went fine and nothing has changed. I think people have been waiting for so long they are starting to do the whole "if hes not done by ___" then I'm panicking even if there isn't a legitimate reason to. Couple posters brought up a good point that he might want to hold a little announcement thing at his school which would be better than committing right away on a visit. In an article today with his dad it was mentioned that they are tiring of the process and that a decision will be coming by the middle of October. Also that they weren't sure if they were going to take any more visits.

As for the whole Gary crying thing first he just got choked up when talking about Greivis Vasquez. Second Gary isn't always some stoic figure as hes cried in post game interviews a few times. And all I'll say is that it is literally impossible for people who don't follow the program to understand the Gary/Vasquez relationship. Those two went through an awful lot of sh1t together.

Chicos has it on good authority that it is.  Lenny disagrees.  PRN says "show them the chicken hawk, that'll make em cry."  4never talks some 1970s jive, and ZFB tells a fart joke.

Only if the onions have been tampered with, otherwise it's ok.

Can anyone explain to me what the difference between official and unofficial visits is?

One is paid for by school, one is not.  One is counted against your limited number of total capped visits, the other is not.

Also worth noting... officials can't be taken until the kid starts his senior year of high school.

Ok, thanks. But is there any difference in what the kids can do, contact with coaches/team etc.? I have a feeling this is just a technicality and you wouldn't be able to tell which was which if you didn't already know.
