I had a free ride to Illinois but it was so big it intimidated me.Passed on offers to DePaul and Loyola.  I wanted to be away form chicago but close enough to go home. I liked the feel of the campus even though it didn't look this nice and i gave up sports for the drinking life

De Paul, just because I grew up a block away and to make my grandmother happy.  No intention of going there but never told her that of course.

Ragging on the shack?  Did you mean that pun?

I'm probably a rare case, but I only filled out one application. Knew all along that MU was the place for me.

I was the exact same way. There was not one negative thing I could think of about going to Marquette, so I figured why apply anywhere else?

I had no idea what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go when i was in high school, so I applied to pretty much any place that interested me in the slighest.  On top of that, because I'm a faculty kid and there's a chance to go to every Jesuit school for free(except Georgetown) as part of the FACHEX program, my parents made me apply to all of them(even Georgetown).

I got into all the Jesuit schools as well as a ton of other places....Stanford, Boston U, Oberlin, IU, Pepperdine, Arizona State....and a bunch more I can't even remember anymore.  In the end though it came down to MU and Boston College...with MU winning out because it was free.

MU over Stanford?  It seems like you couldn't design a better undergrad experience than there (great sports, weather, education).  I could maybe understand it if you were looking at 200k in debt from there and none from MU.

MU was my 1st choice because I have 3 older brothers that went here. I also applied and got accepted to Georgetown, George Mason, George Washington (I really wanted to move to DC/VA), Carroll College, UW-Milwaukee and Whitewater.

My basic goal was that I wasn't going to leave school with debt when I could go to a bunch of places for free.  If they'd offered me scholarships they would have been the choice, but what they offered was tiny, and MU was free.

Well, I'm glad you chose Marquette.  I very much appreciate your recruiting updates on this board.

MU was actually my third choice behind University of Washington and Saint Mary's (CA). Also got into Gonzaga and Santa Clara (Tons of stuck up rich kids). After I got my financial aid package MU was way cheaper than anywhere else including Washington and I was in state.

Washington University, DePaul, Marquette.

WU was my first choice.  In 1987, MU was $10k, and WU was $18k.  My dad said to me .. "Son, I love you .. but not that much."

So I went to Marquette.  Two of my sisters had gone, so I'd been on campus a bunch of times and basically was a scared little kid and wanted to pick the safest choice.  In honesty, in hindsight, and had I been a different kid, I would have chosen a different school.

MU, UW-Madison, Gustavus Adolphus & Luther.  I knew MU was going to be my choice before I mailed any of them in.

Notre Dame and Holy Cross. Decided 4 more years of "all boys" education was not for me - though I confess that in those days the girls at MU were less than stellar.

Madison, Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa, James Madison, USC, Arizona State all D2 schools to which I applied.

I decided to apply all over the country but eventually stayed in state.  Didn't want to be a Badger, however.  I think it's because of all the idiots from high school that got in that I really had no respect for and hated.  No one from my H.S. was going to MU, and I really liked that appeal.

Carroll, Carthage, Loyola-Chi, Xavier.  My safety school was Northern Michigan.  For years anytime I told anyone I went to Marquette they assumed I was going to NMU.

I didnt get into Georgetown.  I think I was waitlisted.

Also when I took my tour of MU my senior year of HS the tourguide was really cute and when she went to show us the Joan of Arc chapel the door basically came off in her hand.  Was pretty memorable.

Xavier, St. Thomas, Dayton, and Carroll (now) University.  It was really down to Marquette and Xavier, and I didn't know anybody else going to Xavier so I chose Marquette.

Loyola Chicago and Minnesota. Only sent in those because it would not have been acceptable for me to only apply to MU per my parents. But really, I knew I was headed for Marquette since about this time of my Jr year in HS.

UC San Diego  (top 50 school now, but not back then)
UC Irvine (top 50 school now, but not back then)
Marquette

Declined by Notre Dame

Offered acceptance to several DII and DIII schools to play soccer (non scholarship) if I wished to attend.  Chose not to apply, was hanging up the cleats.

Grad school was a different story.
