Does anyone know if perhaps someone is leaving for academic reasons?

I like all our current players and new recruits coming in.  I hope there are no transfers or defections on the horizon.

Because the question was asked how do we make room for a possible key recruiting addition? If we had to get rid of someone Id want it to be Yous hands down. Learn to read dumbass. Im not hiding behind the keyboard from anyone. So are you trying to say that if Wade were to come back and play some college ball but Yous had to be gone, you would keep Yous?

It's OK, you don't get it.  Part of what Marquette prides itself is holding ourselves to higher standards than other schools, and too many of us on this board, those standards are more important individual recruits that MAY have an impact.  The kind of attitude to just be hoping for players to transfer or showing them the door is a dangerous precedent, and too much of that can turn off future recruits.

And yes you are hiding behind a keyboard, like we all are, but you are in the distinct minority of openly calling out for one our players to transfer.  You mentioned in an early post, how much you LOVE Lazar Hayward, even named yourself HaywardHeroes32.  Well, go find him on campus, and have the following conversation with him.

"Hey Lazar!  What's up man. You know what, Mbao sucks.  He is skinny, doesn't really do anything, I really hope he transfers.  If he doesn't transfer, then Buzz needs to pull his scholarship.  I read on a message board about this potential recruit who is 6'8" 260 lbs, I also saw a youtube clip of him, and I think he could really help the team next year."

I think he will show some of those leadership qualities you opined about earlier.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. Yous may be the nicest guy in the world and a model citizen. Don't know him. And, life is probably a bitch also when you're 7'2" and can't play basketball. But, his basketball IQ is zero. That coupled with his lack of experience and frail body makes him a bad fit for MU and Big East competition. Just the facts, not making this smack up.
NCAA scholarships are one year at a time and renewable thereafter. Stuff happens. Just sayin', players come and go. Probably the reality of big time money athletics and it happens in every program. Don't want  to see a habit made of it. Yes, Crean did it and continues the practice. Buzz as well. Don't believe all that's reported as fact. Hazel left, Roseboro left, JMay left also. Who's next. It's business and people's livelihood depends on making the correct decisions.

to be fair 4ever, you are basing your comment that he has zero basketball IQ based on 1 play.  The play where Mbao was guarding the in bounds and Buzz was jumping up and down waving his hands showing him what to do.  That's not exactly fair, that was the first minute he ever played of D-1 ball, thrown into a game he had no clue he was gonna play in, doing something he probably never once practiced, with a coach as well as know can get over-excited at times on the sidelines.

So if you keep saying he has no basketball IQ, c'mon.  It may be low, but it's not zero.  If it is indeed zero as you say it is, that it on Buzz for recruiting him in the first place.

I would rather compete with what we have than model ourselves after Calipari.    "We are.....Marquette"  is supposed to mean something.    It shouldn't mean we are going to sell our souls and run off a kid who by all accounts is great just because he didn't come in and set the world on fire as a frosh.    All of those bigs on all of those mid-majors that so many are looking longingly at took time to develop, too.   Crean landing MacFarland or JuJuan Johnson would have changed a whole bunch of things.    But neither one of them were all-conference as freshman, either.   Yous deserves time and patience just like they received.    Having said all of that, over the last few years, it has become apparent that these things work themselves out.  Don't know how, don't know who, but running a kid off simply because he didn't show much as a freshman is not what Marquette is supposed to be about.

From Hayward
Shut up. If we are going to lose one of our players to transfer it has to be Yous, that is obvious. He is clearly the weakest link that we got right now and may never be an asset. Nobody is spoiled, you are just ignorant and stupid. I love Hayward because of what he has done for this program for 4 years and hes been a great guy and leader. Now frack off.

I agree with everything that PTM has said.  We offered Yous a scholarship and he accepted it.  If he's slacking off and has a bad attitude, it's one thing.  If he's working his butt off to become the best player he can be (even if he can't become a good player at all) I'm going to support him 100% of the way, and I would hope (and trust) Buzz and everyone in the athletic department would do the same.  Yes, scholarships are year to year, but if you offer one to a player and he does everything he can to become a better player and person off the court then he should be able to stay on scholarship for all 4 years.  In fact, I'm hoping that Yous can get a medical redshirt and can be around for 5 years.  One image I'll always remember is he was one of 2 players to lift Lazar up off the court after he missed the half court shot (can't remember who else helped him up...for some reason just Yous sticks in my mind).  The kid is 7'2", runs the court very well for being 7'2", and is fairly athletic.  Do I think he'll be an All Big East player?  Nope.  But do I think he could be a solid contributer in his 3rd or 4th year?  Yup.  He's been around the game for a relatively short amount of time.  He's only going to get better.  And it's not like we've had great success with very many big men at Marquette, so why not try?  Do we really want a roster of 13 players under 6'6"?  What's the point?  I suppose at this point I'd rather have a 7'2" freshman bench warmer than a 6'2" freshman bench warmer.  We've had plenty of 6'2" studs, the 6'2" projects will never see the court at Marquette.  The 7'2" ones just might.

And for those who think Erik Williams would leave, I for one would be shocked.  I know it was a while ago and there's now a full season behind him with not much playing time, but having talked to all of the players at Marquette Madness, he was the most enthusiastic and genuinely happy player on the team.  He said he loved everything about Marquette and didn't mind the cold because he loved everything else.  He was always surprisingly enthusiastic and encouraging on the bench (as was Yous).  If I was a top 60 freshman and saw about 2 mpg my freshman year, I'd probably just sulk on the bench quite a bit.  He always seemed to have a very positive attitude.  (Jamail Jones also seemed to absolutely love Marquette at Marquette Madness.  He was very polite and excited).

I hope our roster stays the same next year and we get a stud big in 2011.  If we add another player, I hope the rumors that have been thrown around here that Yous's parents are very wealthy are true and he is going to pay his way throughout Marquette and open up a roster spot for another player (very unlikely, but the only way I'd be happy with adding another recruit).

Agree 100%

HH32... I hope you're prepared to eat a nice helping of crow.

Remember the number of people on this board who were CERTAIN that Cubillan and Acker would contribute nothing this year? They said there was no way they would do anything to help the team in conference play. Almost the whole board spent the bulk of the year eating crow from those statements. No one on here knows what's going to happen year to year, much less 4 years from now.

I'm sure that by the end of Yous' time here, he will be a serviceable role player who will contribute. I can't wait for it to happen so that you can look back and feel like an idiot for hoping this college kid would get run off campus.

How would you have reacted if MU had run you off campus because they found someone smarter?

Have to agree with reinko on this one.  Additionally, Yous 's native tongue is not english and depending on his grasp of the language Buzz was probbably giving hand gestures to make sure Yous fully understood what he wanted him to do.  When Buzz gets in a defensive stance and yells at his players in practice to get low on defense do you think it is becuase his players have such low IQ's that he has to demonstrate a defensive stance for them?  Give the kid a break.

personally i would love to bring in a 6'10 kid with some muscle.  i would also love to keep Yous around I think he could be a solid player by his 3rd or 4th year.

Funny, but Buzz and company have a completely different take on Yous than HH32 and 4ever.
I think that by year 3, we will be dredging up this thread, reminding them how stupid it seems.

Murphy sounds just like a Roseboro story. Late bloomer that is getting offers this late, I'm skeptical. Someone wanna give me some info on Gardner?

bamamarquettefan

Absolutely want to keep Mbao.  Obviously he is very challenged offensively, but we need the option of a shot blocker or we are going to have more Stanford-Missouri-Washington games where we play great defense except that we don't have anyone to have their back and reject a short shot at the end.

If I'm not mistaken, the most blocked shots anyone has had for us this decade is 43, and that was D. Wade.

So when Mbao rejectes 5 shots in 60 minutes before he is hurt, one every 12 minutes while he is clearly still learning the game, he could combine with Otule (5 blocks in 25 minutes), they could alter our games.

Remember, when McIlvaine rejected 142 shots opponents shot 35% against us for the year.  We aren't going to get that again, but I think we've got two guys back their who have huge upsides and can assure us we always have the option of a 6-foot-10 or 7-foot-2 guy to have our backs, even if one is in foul trouble.
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

1. You implied those things rather strongly because of your dismissive and condescending tone. People make inferences about the things you say, and the connotations attached to your post were actually very clear.

2. Your use of name calling really diminishes the legitimacy of your opinions. Try espousing your opinions in a more grown up way, people will take you more seriously.

3. The point you're missing is that you shouldn't want ANY of our players to leave AT ALL. It is a bad thing for the program to have athletes leaving after one year. It sets a bad precedent, and you seem far too eager to see that happen.

4. I don't care HOW bad a freshman center seems to be, when he's 7'2", suit him up, give him a chance to work for a few years and see what happens. I'd rather take the chance than not.

I understand that we shouldnt want someone to leave, but like i said all my comment was....."the transfer better be Mbao"........if a transfer happend hed be the one id want gone, thats the fact. To make up quotes that i would say to zar is asinine, arogant and just flat retarded, that warrants name calling. Putting words in my mouth.

Are you an adult?  Yeah, I put some words in your mouth, and your response?  Name calling, cursing, and pounding your chest.  So you know what, I apologize for putting said words in your mouth.  I made an inference.

I am glad you got that out of your system.  Civility in life goes a lot further than the behavior you just displayed.
