In Journal Sentinel..about Buzz:

I don't know if you can say we're tough - that's a credit that goes to (coach) Buzz (Williams)," said senior forward Lazar Hayward. "Everybody's all on the same page, working really hard, and we know exactly what we need to do to win. The toughness is just a mirror image of Buzz."
"I'm not sure Cadougan would fix the problems on this team. I'm not even convinced he would be better for this team than DeWil is."

No doubt Buzz is doing good stuff.  However, Lazar is a dream player to have on a young team.  A leader and force that I think has a lot to do with how the rest of the team buys into Buzz's system.

It's not about ME,
It's about US.

very well said just look at the debacle in Bloomington, IN.

When a team is all on the same page, and knows exactly what it needs to do to win - that is a direct reflection of great leadership..and that comes directly from the top.  Agree that Zar is a dream player, and also think Buzz is a player's dream to play for.

And next year Jimmy Butler will be that dream player, the year after it will be DJO, etc.

One thing I noticed was after we missed the shot (I believe it was a Lazar 3) and regulation ended, they showed the players huddling up and Buzz was just laughing and clapping and seemed pretty upbeat and loose. I think this is one of the things Buzz has been very good at, the last two years our players have seemed to be loose and just going out and playing and it has helped us be much more successful.

Ready2Fly

Cheebs, I noticed that too! I thought it definitely kept the guys loose. Very impressed with Buzz' sideline demeanor.

JWags85

He calls him Buzz!  How unprofessional... ::)

Lazar is our stud - the comments speak for themselves - and he's a better person than he is a basketball player.

HoopsMalone

I think that Lazar is right that they are a reflection of Buzz.  The best example is how Dominic James grew up in a hurry and became a very selfless player overnight under Buzz.

These guys do share the ball well.  They take very few bad shots and you can recognize a game plan on the offensive end.

I was at the game yesterday but then had to watch it back last night on DVR, of course. Noticed that about Buzz laughing at the end of regulation and patting his guys on the back, agree with the others about Buzz's demeanor.

Also noticed Buzz taking a couple extra seconds talking to a couple of the SHU guys during the post-game handshakes...wonder what was up there. Anyone else see that?

Not sure what he says, but I think he's done that in every single game I've watched since he started that they've shown the handshake line.

1. When the players came out for the tip in OT, they were also smiling and laughing.  And why shouldn't they have been?  Clearly these situations are old hat to them by now.

2. Buzz was giving extended congratulations to Harvey and Garcia, since it was their Senior Day.  A nice gesture.

Right on both accounts - Usually Buzz cruises through the hand shake line without a lot of fanfare, but I think he did give an extra moment to the seniors, as well as some other SHU players because he respected how hard they competed.  Also, it was great of Buzz to laugh/clap/smile as the team was returning to the bench to head to overtime - that goes along way toward staying loose..and also reminding the team this game is fun, and to enjoy the ride (even with so much riding on the game).  A great tactic.

I think Lazar/Buzz are channeling Al McGuire there: "A team should be an extension of a coach's personality. My teams are arrogant and obnoxious."

Buzz's teams are tough and hard working
