If Marquette students these days cared more about drinking and less about studying, MU would have won tonight!!!!

superfan1387

Not only do I agree with you, but I will defend to my death your right to say it. Back in my day we woke up blitzed everyday, that was Marquette. None of this studying  business. We went to the bars 24/7. Students now just don't get it. Their improved academic rankings and overall prestige of the University has directly made the basketball team terrible. I can't stand it anymore.

mu_hilltopper

I'd say the "gold out" was a complete bust.  If the BC is usually 50% gold, it was maybe 70% gold tonight.   Barely made a visual difference.

I think the students were fine.

But the rest of the lower bowl folks .. just do not know how to get into a game this year.    It was odd .. at the beginning of the game, people kept standing after the national anthem, normally a time they sit.  Figured people were jacked up.  Didn't last.

Really needed the crowd this game, not just the students.  Really sad showing.   I think, too, it just gets worse every year.

Such positive attendance at the library and poor attendance at basketball games by those students is probably the reason we don't have a football team, either.  There just wouldn't be enough support.  As a student, you only have one chance to be in the "best student section in the nation."  Put the books away and live a little...

There's a lot of hyperbole above but there's also some truth.  I went to the bathroom (my seats are right at a bathroom) at the 1:30 mark and students were pouring out.  I finally just screamed at them and said you're all f'n idiots, you're only in college once, stick around for a comeback.

Our crowds rarely get on their feet, we need some DJ TC love (Cotton Eyed Joe) to get going.  Who the hell cares about a gold out, just tell everyone to stand occasionally.

Finally, you get your MU Viking types who love to brag about MU's rankings, endowments etc.  Well frankly I liked it better when it was a bunch of drunk Irish kids from the southside with 2.9's who came to get a decent education and have a good time at the 'Lanche.  I could care less about current app rates, current ACT scores, current donations (all #'s are inflated since every other school in America experienced huge growth too).  MU is an decent school and lets get back to educating good kids who like to have a good time.  They make for a better crowd.  We're not Northwestern.  Not off the court and thankfully on either.

Hey

I was one of those drunken Irish Kids at the 'Lanch

Those were the days.

DomJamesToTheBasket

The OP sounds facetious,  but there are people who will see the board and not read the thread.  I hate seeing threads with titles like this.

Clam Crowder

The crowd tonight was great until the inconsistency got to us. The crowd was the best I remember so honestly stop whining about the crowd.

KipsBayEagle

Have to say, coming from a television viewer, the crowd looked really weak, especially compared to the georgetown cuse game that was on earlier.

mu89

i'm tired of this "back in my day..." BS.

Clam Crowder

The crowd was just fine, it was the players if the majority of the ticket holders were 60 year olds theyd be able to look more crazy on TV

I think the OP was mocking earlier threads.  The crowd was great.....but somehow the fans weren't able to win the game.

Whether it was mocking or not, it didn't look great on TV.  Honestly, the Bradley center really has to let students get closer to the court.  You couldn't even see our student section on TV.

Brewtown Andy

I would like an explanation from someone who was booing at the end of the game, though.

My guess is they were booing for not fouling at the end.

I think that was residual from the BLATANT foul they didn't call when Jimmy was dragged to the ground going for a board.

timinatorx3

the booing was b/c the band plays old songs, and b/c he PA announcer says "JIMMMY BUTTLAAHHH" incorrectly. SRSLY!!

Doris Burkes Thong

I thought they were booing Aston Gibbs for mooning the MU student section???

superfan1387

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones have cost on average 4 games a year over the past 10 years.

The 'gold out' was an embarrassment. Saw tons of people there who I knew were MU alums....wearing green sweatshirts, black shirts, even (God forbid) RED shirts. What a joke. Gimme a break, is it that hard to wear a yellow shirt once a year?

The crowd stunk. I'm an alum, season tix in the lower bowl. Three times we started to make a run, I'm up standing and yelling....and got told to sit down. By OUR fans! I wanted to throw my kid's ice cream at them. NOBODY outside of the student section EVER stands unless it's the last 2 minutes of the game. Maybe. Even then it's halfhearted. It's so depressing.

It's almost like being at a Bucks game.

The fact of the matter is that not everyone is going to hear about the "Gold Out", so unless you put a Tshirt on every seat, it's not going to be perfect.

I seriously think by the second half at every game the announcer turns his last name into one syllable somehow.   ?-(

Yeah, let's just become UW-Green Bay or NIU, but at 3 times the price. Sounds like a plan!

Do you really have to "hear" about a gold out?  If your a season ticket holder you should know to wear gold to the game....EVERY GAME!

I've had that happen the last 2 seasons.  It's not unique to this year.  It's always deflating.  My personal experience marks this as the best crowd this season.  My section stood up more than any other game.
